Funzone at Hillsborough

Recommended Posts

I don't know if people know or not, but Funzone above the old co-op in Hillsbrough is still open. It's been empty the last few times we've been inside, and it may be because people think it is closed, but its not part of the co-op and is still open. The post office is aswell, it's just the co-op that is shut

I went with my daughter and two grandkids to the Activity Centre at Hillsborough (next door to the Coop) and will never go back there. The first thing that greets you when you walk in the front door is a scruffy entrance and two flights of stairs which we had to carry the prams and bags up, There is a lift which has out of order signs on but to honest it doesn't look like its worked for a very long time. As you climb the stairs you get a feeling that things are going to get worse.

As you enter the play area you are greeted by a dismal, dark, dirty place.

The table and chairs where you sit to eat and watch your children have seen better days, they were old wooden tables that must be 30 years old and the one where we sat was filthy. I went to order some food and asked the young girl if she could get someone to come and clear the table as there were plates of food and drinks from the previous occupants all over the table. The food was not just on the old plates but all over the table. When someone came after 15 minutes she collected the plates etc from the table and wiped all the old food which was on the table straight onto the floor. When I looked on the floor there was food and rubbish everywhere, and there were kids running about in it with just socks on. After over an hour of waiting for our food which was ordered and paid for 10 minutes after we entered the place I had had enough and went back to the counter and got a refund for the food which the lady was very reluctant to give me. We packed up and left. We will never go back there, the place is a dump. :gag:

This is a post I made on another thread in February about the place you are talking about. I think they call it "Space Fun Zone". It was a dump when I went in :gag:

Try Tots to Tens at Livesey street Hillsborough. Clean,no broken toys, safety conscious, decent food and very well managed and supervised by qualified child care specialist. They have a website.

Cheers for that, we'll try it.

I must admit, I'd asked the question before I read your "review" of Funzone. Sounds a real ****hole LOL

The owner of fun zone has put it up for sale so don't rule it out forever, a new owner may bring big improvements!

Do these kind of places get any kind of inspection? It's just there was another thread on here recently about another kids play centre place, and the general consensus seemed to be that it was an absolute dive.

I'm the first to complain about 'Health and Safety Gone Mad' but surely these places should be subject to some kind of standard, like restaurants, cafes, pubs etc..... Kind of like a 'Scores on the Doors' thing?

Was the the place off Abbeydale Road?

We've been to parties there - my younger DH had her 5th there - and we've not had any complaints. But some posts on here have totally slagged it.
