CorkerSWFC   10 #98 Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) Bookies are modern day pubs and community centres, they actually provide many valuable services for the vulnerable, lonely, unemployed sports lovers, many people just hang around bookies for warmth / air conditioning and to socialise. You can watch Sky Sports for free and many bookies give people free cups of tea as well! Without bookies many people would have no / few friends or life, they're a fantastic neutral meeting place where these folk can socialise with like minded sports lovers.  Also the bookies has the crack cocaine of the gambling world called FOBT's, or Fix odds betting terminals, by your reply I'm sure you know what they are anyway. There are 6 bookmakers at least within a few yards of each other in town two of which are ladbrokes across the road from each other. We both know why firms are willing to spend 100-200k on new bookmakers because the FOTB's are making them a a fortune, but your only allowed 4 in each bookies so they have to open more to make the profit more telling. It is a disgrace this is happening and it is ruining peoples lives, families and people have even committed suicide because of the "bookies boom" I am very clued up on the rubbish the bookies and the government are trying to feed us. A friend of mine was on the BBC the other day about this very subject and I have supported him. Do you not think it's a disgrace how the lower end of the social scale are being took for mugs, no wonder they use them as sanctuary as there's that many about these day's, bookmakers don't mind the small betters coming in as it takes the shine of the thousands what are getting spent on the FOTB's what are basically making most of there profit. Coffee, tea yeah right I know plenty of fellas who get free bets to calm em when they have lost 5 grand in an FOBT. TIME FOR SOME ACTION !!! Henrietta   10 #99 Posted May 24, 2013 If you're not contributing to the economy, then you're not welcome to come to this country. Simple as.  The nhs, welfare state, housing all gasping for air, bled dry by a massive influx of takers  If you have nothing to give the country or the economy then no entry. boldforester   10 #102 Posted May 24, 2013 We have in a way lol  Yeah, you're right. The Left was 'triangulated' into the centre by Blair in a cynical (and successful) attempt to win power. Ever since, the real public face of the left - the Trade Unions - have been hopelessly compromised by their relationship with Labour. Attempts to form a new workers' party have been less successful than what's happening on the Right.
 Share this content via...

Henrietta   10 #107 Posted May 24, 2013 but they are still a drain on the system? dont contribute anything is it just cos you cant send em anywhere?  Not the issue here.  No, it's not good being a dosser and thinking its ok to choose not to work.  But this is about immigrants coming to this country and over taxing its resources  Taking not giving  If you've got nothing to contribute, stay in your own mother land. Not welcome to come for a free ride  You won't manage it anywhere else!!
 Share this content via...
sheff71 Â Â 10 #108 Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) Just found this but I am a little confused... The comments made by the residents of Darnall refer to a bookkeepers but then say we have enough bookies and betting shops in the area. I thought a bookkeepers was an accountants and a bookmakers was a betting shop! Are they the ones who are confused? Â http://publicaccess.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=MKDRH6NYFY000 Â ---------- Post added 24-05-2013 at 09:43 ---------- Â It's ok just looked into it and its PaddyPower who are opening on Darnall! Opposite WilliamHill by the look of it. Â Opposite William Hill - is the old Dobson's store closing then (as that's pretty much the length of the block facing WH, unless it's the old chemist or post office on the corner...) Â Edit: it is the chemist on the corner, by the crossing. Edited May 24, 2013 by sheff71 Further info
 Share this content via...
