Bedroom Tax megathread

Recommended Posts

There's an article about this on the Guardian, and even the Guardianistas are rubbishing it. It's a load of absolute balls. It is not a "human right" to have a house paid for by the state in the first place, let alone one with spare bedrooms.

Looks like a stunt set up by the Scottish Daily Record:

It's not a stunt, the UN has sent a housing official over to investigate ou housing crisis.

The official has said there is a crisis and the bedroom tax violates human rights to adequate housing.

Incorrect.

She came here to write an independent report that was to be published next year, and was given approval so to do.

She gave a statement after just two weeks, and has consistantly, erroneously, referreed to the benefit reform as a "Bedroom Tax", which it is not.

I don't usually have much time for Grant Shapps, but he's right on this one. the disingenuous left-wing idiot needs putting in her place.

what it has to do with the UN god only knows, this is not even a tax it is a reduction in benefits for something that is not being used or a room that someone has over and above their housing needs:roll: for too long council houses have been a luxury which costs a pittance compared to the private sector.

The UN is a waste of space, and stuff like this just exposes it for the nonsense it is.

It's a bad sign that the UN can't even wrap their heads around a simple benefit reduction.

God help Syria, the UN don't have a bloody clue.

Maybe HM Govt will disregard all UN advices and rulings and Mr Obama and co will order 'military strikes' to facilitate a 'regime change' ??????

The UN have ruled that many of the changes brought in by Camerons thugs are a violation of human rights. If we refuse to listen and implement changes and continue to allow the Tory Boys to further disadvantage the already disadvantaged then how can Cameron preach human rights to the rest of the world ??

I'm sure the forum 'Tory Boys' will be frothing at the mouth already. :hihi:

No, ex council houses are none of the councils business, and they would have no need to visit a current council house, they know who is living there and how many bedrooms it has.

Even if he did claim HB he still wouldn't be affected, the recent changes were nothing to do with HB for people living in private rented property, they only affected council properties.

The bedroom tax affects people in all rented property, not just council housing. So does the benefit cap on Housing Benefits.........read up on it.

In London a lot of landlords have become very rich by overcharging, hence the cap on benefits.

yes maybe we should ignore UN advice and rulings as they seem pretty poor judges so far in many issues!! Camerons thugs?????? violated what rights?:roll:

the bedroom tax only affects council tenants and housing benefit tenants, a private rental is in no way affected, so if you earn your own money...... you can have as many bedrooms as you like .......on the other hand if you want the taxpayer to fund or subsidize your housing dont expect more than you need:suspect:

wrong

we're in a housing association house and get no housing benefit, i pay my own way, and the rules almost affected us

3 months ago we moved house, we have 2 kids, sharing 1 smallish bedroom, sleeping in a bunkbed, the kids are 12 and 14, we'd been in there 14 years.

a neighbour 3 doors down gets benefit, all their kids have left, they had 3 bedrooms

so we thought we'd swap, ideal

at first they wouldnt let us, being housing association it counts as social housing and as the eldest wasnt 16 we couldnt move (a year and half or so later we could???? crazy)

however, they then looked into it again and as we'd applied BEFORE the new rules came in (end of april????) and were good tenants (paying our own way on time, instead of benefits) they said we could swap, although they made one proviso, we had to do it quickly????? no idea still, why that mattered lol
