If we were going to the panto mom would tell everybody we were off to the Fol de Rols!

 

I believe this was a very popular Pierrot Show that was staged on the Beach at Scarborough by an Edwardian entrepreneur George Royle.

"lamps" = eyes.

 

"lug holes" = ears.

 

"eard" and "noggin" = head.

 

"bunch 'o fives" = fist.

 

"tuwers" and "newers" = toes and nose.

 

"Chinning" and "tanning" = hitting and smacking

Lamps brings back an old saying which I haven't heard used in donkeys years:-

"He lamped him" ="he gave him a right thump!"
