Does God Exist?

Recommended Posts

Everything.

Fairly wide of the mark on the creation story. I've always regarded it as a good story, but nothing more.

It's spot on and I'm not arguing. You haven't been reading the threads and I'm not repeating it again for the umpteenth time.

Goodnight.

One only has to look at all the beautiful plants and trees to know that this couldn't have just happened. It needed intelligent design. What about an eye? How could that have just appeared? If a tornado hit a car breakers, it wouldn't leave an E Type in its wake.

However the designer was a bit naff. Putting sex organs next to the sewage system and indeed having them operate as both is novel but not the best design option. I know the childbitrth thing weas a curse from god but really - A hinged door over the stomach opened by a code provided by god on 9 months would be better and would save a fortune in healthcare.

Why not have parents needing to spend a year in close proximity before the female could get pregnant? That would solve a lot of social problems. Bones break too easily. A good god would have thought of this before the seventh day or would have fixed it after. If humans were bendy and could bounce from great heights, there would be a lot less to go wrong. Needing blood to carry oxygen round the body is a bit of a no-brainer. Fine until someone gets accidentally opened up or those white cells get a mind of their own.

I suppose god was a bit limited because he had to make us in his own image for some reason but hey, got to give the guy a 6 out of 10 for effort.

Darwin had an explanation for that 150 years ago. It's depressing to know that so many people are still hopelessly unaware of it.

Darwin was a favourite of Stalin and gave Hitler the green light to kill millions of people based on the theory of natural selection. It is still a theory. Where are the transitional fossils?

We can neither prove or disprove God's existence. God may or may not exist.

Firstly, you're straight up wrong, while God couldn't be disproved he could totally be proved, it would be easy if he existed, for example if prayer worked. Or if he struck a few people down, or even if he just came down and said hi. You appear to be implying that you're just as reasonable as an atheist because 'god can nvewr be proved or disproved' but that's wrong. God could be proved, easily, but he cannot be disproved.

Not the god of the abrahamic religions though, he definitely doesn't exist.

God as some sort of abstract 'thing that started the big bang' can never be disproved but 'god the all loving all knowing all seeing interventionist can'.

"And so, at some point in history, a bunch of people who wanted to control a bunch of other people said 'well, we want to control people, how can we do it?' and another person said 'well, CCTV hasn't been invented yet. Let's invent an all seeing but invisible that we'll tell them will punish them if they don't do as they're told.'

And thus, God was born of man. However, not everyone played ball and these people were murdered or executed for daring to speak against the idea of God. They were punished by other men, not God as first advised, thus humans taking the power away from God, but saying that they were doing God's work.

So, a few thousand years later, and with much knowledge gained through the invention of science, and the murder of yet more people in the name of God (the invisible geezer created to control, without doing any actual controlling as it all appears to be the humans doing the controlling at this point) for daring to speak out against the creators of God, it turns out God doesn't actually exist after all. However, the God believers tell us that God isn't an actual being, but a spirit - which gets them out of actually having to prove it because it's what you feel, not what you can see.

However, this 'spirit' apparently has the power to stop all of the ills in the world, but won't because it doesn't want to interfere, which begs the question 'what's the point in being a supreme power if you can't use that power' and thus renders the idea of God as pointless because it can't affect what happens on the Earth."

So, in summary, God exists as an idea, but you're going to be sorely disappointed when you realise you're on your own and you've missed out on years of fun waiting to be 'saved'.

Indeed. I am so honed into the opposition, I can spout it.

You are the proof and everything around you!

Lovely answer.

Brief and to the point, but says it all. Don't rise to an argument.
