El Cid   212 #2 Posted April 20, 2013 Do they have this power over ice cream vans?  The council have no rights on what vehicles that are on the road, and is it just a hygene certificate that is needed to sell foods.  http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/
 Share this content via...
cgksheff   44 #3 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) "........ Ice cream vans are already banned from trading near schools from one hour before and until one hour after lessons....."   Really?   "Ice cream mobile traders cannot stop within 800 metres of any school from an hour before the start of the school day until an hour after the end of the school day unless you have applied for a separate school consent " Edited April 20, 2013 by cgksheff
 Share this content via...

They appear to delight in doing things which benefit or please nobody. I could not see this initiative surviving any sort of legal challenge. Free loop   10 #6 Posted April 20, 2013 When I was a kid in parsons cross in the eighties/early nineties there was an ice cream van run by the same guy for years. Circa 2002 I was at the fuel station at Norwood roundabout waiting my turn for the air line thingy behind that very ice cream man with the same van; as I was sat there watching him the axle or the springs on his van just broke right before my eyes and the van just dropped about 12 inches. Greengeek   10 #7 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) Scrapping old Ice Cream Van's won't help the carbon footprint. Keeping old ones running will.  I love seeing the old Ford/Bedford's that Sanellis use.  Why not convert them to LPG? That way they will be greener than even the newest vans, and cheaper than replacing. Edited April 20, 2013 by Greengeek
 Share this content via...
geared   302 #8 Posted April 20, 2013 Scrapping old Ice Cream vans to help with carbon emissions and stuff?  Whats the point? by the time they've finished arguing about it all the Chinese will have opened 10 coal fired power stations. Penistone999 Â Â 10 #10 Posted April 20, 2013 Why does this not surprise me. Sheffield council are pathetic . Now they are trying to kill off small independent Ice Cream business`s. As someone has already pointed out, what about the hundreds of polluting buses that are clogging up the cities roads all day , running round empty with no passengers on then. Â ---------- Post added 20-04-2013 at 15:41 ---------- Â If any vehicle passes the emissions test when it has its MOT , then it is roadworthy ,and the council have no right to ban vehicles that have been deemed roadworthy by qualified MOT testers.
