Natural Childbirth classes, Pat Callis - midwife

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember Pat Callis who ran Natural Childbirth Classes in Sheffield in the late 1960s?

I remember a Miss Callis back in the late 70's who was a Nursing Officer in Midwifery at the NGH - probably the same lady ?

My memories of her were her being quite an eccentric but pleasant lady - long gone now I would imagine.

Hi there. Just been having a tea and cake with both Pat and her sister Muriel. Both fit and well and loving life in the Peak District.

I expect Pat Callis must be quite old now as its 42 years since my daughter was born. She helped me so much with a natural childbirth! It all went down hill after that!!!!!

Tell her I have always used the method of relaxation she taught for smears etc and other unpleasant female procedures!!!!

Have just read the book by Pat Callis and her sister about their early life in Sheffield. Does anyone know if they are planning a further book which would incorporate Pats interest in Natural Childbirth?

I have just finished reading it. Ordered it from Sheffield Libraries. Its called 'Life is what you make it' by Muriel and Pat Callis.

I went to classes in late 1971 at Ecclesall Parish Church Hall.
