11.04.13 - Wyvern 5-1 Sheffield Forum

Sheffield Forum fell to a disappointing defeat in their first game in 5 weeks due to bad weather. Top scorer Daniel Sheedy was named as a sub due to not being able to make the 6pm kick off. Andy Coates, Matthew Corker and Ashley Proctor also started this game.

 

It was a scrappy opening but Wyvern were quick to take the lead after about 5 minutes. A corner wasn't dealt with properly and was directed back across goal before being nodded in from a yard out at the far post.

 

During play after that, Eifion Griffiths suffered a disclocted finger which led to him being taken to hospital and me not able to report rest of the first half and part of the second. What I do know is Wyvern scored a penalty and a hugely deflected goal off a divot in the pitch to carry a 3 goal lead at half time. Forum hit the bar and had a chance cleared off the line but had failed to put anything away.

Daniel Sheedy was introduced at half time but Forum failed to take the game to Wyvern, instead they added a fourth about 15 minutes in until Sheedy made his mark on the game. He finally managed to break free of the defence after winning the ball back to slot past the Wyvern keeper.

 

Unfortunately, there was no come back on the cards. Forum looked tired and struggled to cope with Wyverns cross field balls and they finally added a fifth to finish off the game. They were very nearly gifted another goal as the referee decided a shot had gone in despite being forced over the bar by keeper Adam Smith. The referee ruled the ball had gone in and through the netting until protests and a little honesty from Wyvern changed the referees mind.

 

A very disappointing result and performance from Forum who looked rough and out of practice. On to Chaucer now to try and get back in shape in 3 days time.
