My little girl is fascinated by them and i want to take her to have a better look if possible, maybe see one finish being constructed. Â Cheers. The Joker   10 #28 Posted April 7, 2013 Nothing but a gimmick and a blot on the landscape.  Seems the barmy greens are hell bent on destroying our countryside with these ugly and frankly useless monsters.  UKIP would ban them and rightly so.   Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android  Absolutely. What Sheffield needs is some nuclear power plants.  That'll put us on the international map.  Until they blow up, that is.  When they'll wipe us off it. francypants   441 #29 Posted April 7, 2013 I think wind turbines look lovely ........ more please.  As for solar panels, well the ones which have been fitted onto people's roofs under the government scheme look hideous, a total eyesore. rtbcomp   10 #30 Posted April 7, 2013 ..... As for solar panels, well the ones which have been fitted onto people's roofs under the government scheme look hideous, .........  They do. A guy invented some photo-voltaic panels which were the same size as roof slates, they were intended for new-build and looked just like a normal roof, but a bit shinier.  ---------- Post added 07-04-2013 at 16:48 ----------  And since when did photovoltaic cells use silver?  Since they were first manufactured at a guess.  From here  http://www.solar-facts.com/panels/panel-construction.php  "On the photograph to the right, you can clearly see thin silver conducting strips printed to the upper surface of the cell." Bludragonfly   10 #31 Posted April 7, 2013  Solar panels are made using silver and plastic. Silver looks like running out quite soon [LINK]   Don't say that too loudly - the scrap metal collectors will be removing them for the silver!!! Bludragonfly   10 #33 Posted April 7, 2013 I think wind turbines are beautiful. I saw the new ones at Ulley last week when visiting relatives in Thurcroft.  I wonder if the Windmill developers many years ago received much objection. After all, they would have towered over many of the nearby buildings and were often built close to / in villages and towns
 Share this content via...

Dromedary   166 #35 Posted April 7, 2013 were i live in chesterfield the council have alot of disabled bungalows and are having panels fitted to the roof for free, therehoping to do the whole town in the near future.  I think you are referring to the two rows of bungalows that have been done and that's it. They are not planning on doing the whole town as they are not free and somebody has to pay for them. Cant find any details on the Chesterfield Council site about any proposed future plans to install them on the whole town. They do however have a solar panel on a talking bin...  More of these turbines are needed with a mix of other renewable sources, and considering they could produce enough energy for 3,000 + homes I cant understand why people think they are a waste of time.
