Security update for anyone using Linux and snap packages. It has been brought to my attention that 'snap' packages that use snap.d are as big a security risk as 'telnet' or 'finger'. I have posted the link on how to get rid of it here:

https://forum.zorin.com/t/latest-security-news/838/3?u=swarfendor437

The apps that it removed I reinstalled using Synaptic Package Manager. Most 'Software' channels don't indicate whether a package uses 'snap' to install. You have been advised! :wink:

Well, I've finally moved on from Zorin OS - I would still recommend it to anyone thinking of giving it a try, to migrate from Windows. I am no longer a moderator for the forum, only occasionally dropping by. I have now found a new home in Devuan 3.0 (codename "Beowulf") and enjoying every moment of it. 😉

Well I have made a full transition to Devuan 3.0 now and have stopped using the inferior Virtual Box from Oracle for Aqemu and Virt-manager - this is the first time I can now see decent graphics output for my Windows 7 Pro VM and don't have to keep pressing Right Ctrl key to release the mouse from the VM - I can just glide from VM to real desktop with ease.

I have installed linux Mint on my old laptop and it is running great, but, every time I want to go onto google I have to log into Google. With a message, unlock your key,  or something like that. How do I unlock the key. Any advice most welcome.

A quick look on you tube sorted it. Cheers.

OK, spotted some errors in the manual, and updated some out-of-date elements, i.e., rescuezilla instead of redobackup to backup your entire system, plus a few typos/sentence errors.

I haven't bothered to amend the ODT version - you could do that yourself using the online pdf above against your ODT file and edit accordingly.

Useful pdf tools: pdf arranger - move pages, delete pages, save as a new pdf.

Corrupt pdf: Use a command line tool - pdftk available via Synaptic Package Manager;

>pdftk <name of file> output fixed.pdf (fixed.pdf is useful for quickly finding the file.

Now you have fixed your pdf, you can view it in Okular and copy and paste text using the selection tool in Okular into a new pdf.

If you created images for the pdf using Inkscape, no need to redo the images - open the fixed pdf in LibreOffice Draw, select the image and copy and paste into new pdf without dragging the diagram labels across so you can create new text boxes.

I use pdf Studio Pro 2020 which does everything Adobe Acrobat does with a one-off payment - no rental or having to pay for additional utilities that are all present in the program - is Cross Platform Software.
