Ladystiletto   10 #61 Posted May 31, 2013 This one is very personal to me....  May you rest in peace Phil    ---------- Post added 31-05-2013 at 08:19 ----------  And this one for my Papa...  I played it over and over when he died, some people are just taken too young  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRuHZKbd2UM
 Share this content via...
choogling   14 #62 Posted June 7, 2013  Listen to this without shedding a tear  From June Tabor  Folk singer June Tabor is as far as I'm aware the first artist to record Eric Bogle's The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. This is in my opinion the definitive version. We are supposed to learn from our mistakes but never seem to and year after year the cannon fodder gets sent to some front line somewhere and the dead are reduced to a soundbite and a flashing image on our TV's.... Go figure.
 Share this content via...

ccit   10 #66 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) Got to be 'Oh My Papa' (Oh Mein Papa). Original (Eddie Fisher) 1954 version here but the Everly Brothers' version is lovely too. Also Connie Francis singing Mama. They make me think of my lovely parents who died many years ago and who I still miss. TartyDoris44 Â Â 10 #67 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) When I used to watch the cup final on TV, Abide with Me, always hit the spot its such an emotive song. Â That was my Grandmothers favourite hymn, it is a good one that. Â ---------- Post added 18-06-2013 at 18:50 ---------- Â For me it has to be Knights In White Satin, the words if you listen everybody can relate to I know I was at the time, what I was going through it felt like to me nobody else understood, a line from the song, I listened to that song a lot last year. The Rose by Bette Midler, or Lynne Hamilton On The Inside the theme from Prisoner Cell Block H but there are so many more. Edited June 18, 2013 by TartyDoris44 Spelling Correction.
