IDS reckons he could live on £53 a week. Currently on £1581 a week.

Cost of living in those places is a tad different don't you think....hang on, you don't

I wasn't talking in monetary terms; I was talking about not having a house, gas, electricity, running clean water, readymade meals in a packet.

I think you can take it that people who have signed don't believe it is possible to live on £53 per week for a year

I agree, it’s sickening isn't it, when you see how billions of other humans manage on significantly less.

I would think many of the signatories will, like me, already have jobs, but will understand the stupidity of the comment by IDS.

It wasn't a comment by IDS, it was a response to a question which was basically "could you live on benefits?" To which the answer was clearly yes. Would you rather he'd lied and said no?

I'd have rather he thought about the answer first instead of being so sure.

No it isn't "sickening and I don't believe for one minute you have any real sympathy for people living in poverty in other countries. You do a have a posting history of self, self, self.

I talk from the experience of living on very little, I could if necessary live on no money at all.

Never had you down as a shoplifter.

Well he was sure, because he did when he left the Army. It wasn't a hypothetical question for him as he has done.

He must have been demobbed in the early 70s when £53 was double the national wage-even Lord Snooty could budget on that.:)

A better question would have been "When did you last spend only £53 in a given week?"

IDS was lying and over the next few weeks will be exposed as an intellectual pygmy again. However I can understand a rich man like him wanting to humble the poor but I cannot understand why the SF ten bob millionaires wish to emulate his example.
