Charter re Leveson:

SCHEDULE 4

INTERPRETATION

Key definitions

1. For the purposes of this Charter:

a) “Regulator” means an independent body formed by or on behalf of relevant publishers for the purpose of conducting regulatory activities in relation to their publications;

“relevant publisher” means a person (other than a broadcaster) who publishes in the United Kingdom:

a. a newspaper or magazine containing news-related material, or

b. a website containing news-related material (whether or not related to a newspaper or magazine)

We thought this would just be about the freedom of the press, but it appears that websites will also be included.

I think the mods on here, for better or worse, run a tight ship so anything libellous is most likely to get modded.

The press in this country lob out lies and inaccuracies with impunity unless you have money to chase them down. Appologies ? Mainly hidden on page 8, if at all. Took the sun, what 25 years to cough one up about hillsborough. It's not all their fault though - it's the idiots that buy the papers that are equally culpable.

Meanwhile deaths as a consequence of tabloid bullying continue regardless.

Lucy Meadows a transgendered primary school teacher was found dead at her home in Lancashire shortly after Richard Littlejohn of the Daily Mail wrote a typically hateful piece in the Daily Mail (which has since been removed from the online edition of the paper), which mocked Lucy and claimed that the primary school children at the school where Lucy taught would not be able to cope with having a transgendered teacher.

Unfortunately now the children of the school have to cope with the news of dead teacher as a consequnce of being monstered by the tabloids.

Precisely.

One would have thought with Leveson so fresh in the minds of the editors of the gutter press, they would have decided not to publish this article. It just shows the complete contempt they have for anyone or the editors code of conduct.

I should add that since I posted the sad story of Lucy Meadows I have since read that were Littlejohn's comments posted on Facebook or Twitter he could have been prosecuted. But because they were in a 'newspaper' it's legal. So that's okay then.

I hope the sad story of Lucy Meadows' treatment gets wider public attention, to the point where Dacre has no alternative but to sack the ba$tard Littlejohn

Thankfully the heat is growing under Littlejohn. He took advantage of the fact that Lucy did not have a voice, but now, it seems, thousands are speaking for her.
