mike-s   13 #145 Posted August 16, 2013 I worked in this building when it was Walsh's, they were happy days, all the staff were friendly, we had some good nights out!. I worked in the Radio & tv Dept, always busy, there were times in the 70s when we were regularly selling thirty plus tv's a day as well as plenty of hi fi systems etc. Pretty good for a small department. Shame it's all gone.
 Share this content via...
catpus   10 #146 Posted August 16, 2013 Err, the Council are moving everyone to Moorfoot, which is actually at the end of...the Moor.  Err Really? So what are they going to do with Exchange Street and Castle Square? And what happened to the Sheffield Adoption and Fostering Services, in the Castle Market? Or have they already been relocated? It's three years ago I retired so I've lost touch with Social Services...
 Share this content via...

AndrewC   301 #150 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) It's going to be offices.  Everything east of the bottom of Fargate will no longer be for commercial use - Primark and everything else in that area (castle square/Haymarket) is all being relocated to the Moor.  It's certainly true that with markets moving and with the city centre masterplan mapping out a more office-based environment in the castlegate area that you may see some retailers move to elsewhere in the city centre, but you make it sound like there's a coordinated mass relocation.  The new tram extensions will run down Arundel gate.  It sure will. The 2040s are going to be a great decade.  ---------- Post added 16-08-2013 at 16:27 ----------  Seem to be spending a lot of money, just to accommodate Sports Direct, Poundland and Oxfam, but this is what I have heard is going in there  I doubt Standard Life are spending that much. The bare minimum amount of external cleaning needed for making the building not look run-down and tired, any internal structures needed to split the building in to the three units. Leases signed, easy money. If that is what they are doing with it. Whatever they are doing with it, I can't imagine they will be laying out too much capital on it. It's three years ago I retired so I've lost touch with Social Services...  Sorry I should have elaborated: the council are moving as many non-customer facing operations as possible to 4/5 key locations, of which Moorfoot is one, Town Hall is another and I forget the others. Howden House is another I think, Redvers House is going once the lease it up. The reason for this is to save leasing costs as they own Moorfoot.  So they arent going to be "taking over" Primark et al to change it into offices. Jeffrey Shaw   89 #155 Posted August 19, 2013 Yes, I believe you knew exactly where I meant No, since there are various nondescript office buildings at Moorfoot, and few have any idea whose they are.
 Share this content via...
No User Name   10 #156 Posted August 19, 2013 No, since there are various nondescript office buildings at Moorfoot, and few have any idea whose they are.  For the removal of any doubt for the viewers at home, I was referring to this one, which is by far the most prominent building down there:  http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4012/5137551052_d347fe0f99.jpg
 Share this content via...
