US rejects gun control measures on assault rifles

Recommended Posts

Well it looks like, yet again, no amount of school massacres or drive by shootings will persuade US politicians to back gun control.

No fault to them, obviously if their constituents wanted it then they'd be supportive, but no.

So apparently the American people have spoken and it's assault rifles for all.

Hmmm, or does money talk? "But while polls show most Americans back an assault weapon ban, influential pro-gun lobby groups such as the National Rifle Association have pressed lawmakers to oppose such a move."

No doubt next time there will be more mealy words, more clutching of cloth, more rhetoric and more false, feeble, empty and shallow promises when another school gets shot up.

It's pretty irrelevant to preventing school massacres. Criminals will get assualt rifles (or equivalent killing devices) regardless of whether they are illegal or not, and, schools will remain a prime choice for massacres while ever guns are not permitted in schools, as the perpetrators of such acts will know full well that they can kill at will for a good 20 minutes before armed police arrive to make them stop.

The USA is an oxymoron. Forward thinking and retarded at the same time. The right to bear arms is completely redundant in modern society but it is so etched into peoples' 'psyche' that some would die to preserve that right. The country is 'shot' both ecomomically and politically.

I know so many Americans who detest this culture but it will prevail and it will cost many more innocent and young lives.

I'm lost for words, what can you say? Does any modern society really need to include a right to own an assault rifle?

Let them bear arms that existed when the Second Amendment was passed in 1791, ie. flintlock rifles.

Some of the pro gun brigade actually wanted the older kids to carry guns themselves so they shoot back, how insane is that.

And not a dry eye in the house.

"This my fellow countrymen is a stain (Croc tears a-plenty)on the nations moral fiber".

No it isn't...it was a foregone conclusion. If the American people wanted these measures to take place it would have happened..they just rolled over, and as usual the NRA and its gun junkie Brownshirts kicked ass..

Like Boothybabe said, you 'You conveniently left out the last bit that made it self explanatory', which was-

schools will remain a prime choice for massacres while ever guns are not permitted in schools, as the perpetrators of such acts will know full well that they can kill at will for a good 20 minutes before armed police arrive to make them stop.

As many in the US have intelligently pointed out- in a nation where it is legal to carry arms, and, where a portion of the population have undergone the necessary training to have a concealed carry permit, it is somewhat bizarre that the one place they cannot carry their gun, is in schools.

It also pretty much guarantees that any psycho wanting to kill a large number of people will choose a school, as schools are one of the very few places in the US where they know they will not run the risk of being stopped by a civilian with a firearm, and, the skill and ability to use it.

It's very easy to dismiss those in the US who argue for the right to carry arms as being stupid, or, under the influence of some NRA driven conspiracy- but, the reality is that a lot of them are highly intelligent and well able to back up their views with good, solid reasoning.

And, they support the right to carry arms because they believe that, in the unique scenario of America (where guns are rife, and, will likely remain so whatever laws are brought in), supporting the right to bear arms is the best way to cut down future massacres.

Because they know that, when a psycho walks into a school carrying his illegally obtained assault rifle, there is likely to be a much better outcome if one/more of the teachers there have a concealed carry permit and a gun, enabling them to shoot the attacker.

As opposed to giving him a good 20 minutes where he can slaughter undefended children, before the SWAT teams turn up 20 minutes later.
