Bit of info here:

Zoo photographer extraordinaire, In Cherl Kim, of Korea's Everland Zoo has once again delivered some outstanding marmoset photos. This baby marmoset monkey was photographed August 31st during a check-up. While their tiny size and inquisitive eyes make marmosets adorable, they also make them a frequent target for the illegal pet trade. Native to South and Central America, many species of marmoset are endangered thanks in part to this kind of poaching. So as cute as they are, remember they are meant to be admired from a distance!

Firstly we have done our research and i have asked on here because we wanted to find a breeder the right way and to make sure we did have all the right information about these animals an to make sure it was health checked

Secondly if they are endangered animals why is it not illegal to have these monkeys a pets? And also why have I found ALOT of adverts selling these animals?

And lastly how do you know that the monkey wouldn't have everything it needs to live a happy and fulfilled life living with us, please don't presume that this animal woul not be looked after in the correct way

I think, if you have done your research properly you'd be asking to buy from a breeders forum rather than a forum about local ongoings.

Or at least tried to post in the pet section.

Would you like to spend all your life in a cage? Your dog will probably scare the living daylights out of such a tiny creature. You haven't really done any research or thought it though have you? These little creatures can live for up to 20 years, need specialist care and do not like being on their own.

A bit more here about the concerns over species.

However they are listed as special concern or somewhat threatened. Because of their size, mobility and coloration, it is almost impossible to count the pygmy marmosets living in the South American forests. A threat to these small monkeys is the pet trade.

If the OP has done extensive research not sure how they have missed all of this.

Not sure if illegal or not - but it does feel immoral.

i kind of agree with others regarding not keeping them as pets but you are right and they are advertised, there is an exotic pet shop in mansfield called L and D exotics that have them in stock, we bought a different pet from there, its nursery street mansfield NG18 2AG, phone 01623 431939, as they are group animals perhaps if you're set on buying one then why not buy 2 so they dont get lonely, the size of the cage should be large enough to have a couple of branches in it as well as an area they can sleep which is secluded and darker than rest of cage

U don't no how many times I have to say this we want to find a right breeder so that we now where the animal has come from eg not out of the country we want to do this the right way regardless of what you think we have done research and continue To find out more about the animal. I would rather the animal go to people like us where we know it would be cared for correctly rather than someone who has bought it cause it looks cute. These animals are already born and have to be homed somewhere

Any animal has to be looked after in the correct way be it a monkey, dog, cat, rabbit. If I had put in here about looking for a dog u would not have all pipped up asking if it wa you. To be looked after right !

It is not illegal to turn on a kitchen tap and create a second bathroom in situ by blocking the plughole and sealing all gaps, but few people do it.

Wow, I read some truly crazy things on this forum but a pet monkey ?! Really ? Aww small cute monkey will be a really nice pet... you clearly haven't done much research or you wouldn't have given this stupid idea a second thought. You state you don't work so you will be around... so you plan on not working for the next 20 years ? How do you pay for it ? Do you get monkey benefits now ?

Seriously, you may think you would be the perfect owners but these are wild animals and would hate to be in a box room and caged for 20 years. I've seen them on shows before where they self harm when unhappy. They deserve to be wild in trees outside and in packs. If idiots like you didn't want to ruin their lives for the sake of having a cute little pet there would be no trade of these poor animals.

How about you save your money, go on a holiday to see these and other wonderful creatures on a safari holiday ?

i used to have a cotton eared marmoset and they are wonderful intelligent creatures, but not good pets. they need your full time and attention everyday and its like having a child, but a child who will spray their scent when and wherever, bite it they dont get their own way, screach the house down if left in a room on their own. the idea of having one of these small monkeys seems fantastic but they are a very wild animal, even captive breed ones like what i had are such a big commitment. if you can dedicate your time to one of these demanding animals, for the next 20+ years then go for it as there are good points about them aswel, but this i like adoption not just owning a pet. if u need anymore info if u get one i will b happy to help
