My modem/router are downstairs but I sometimes use my laptop upstairs which is on a separate ring main. Upstairs my speedtest (from t'internet) runs at 37Mbps over WiFi or around 24Mbps over homeplug (200Mb Netgear). I would love to get an ethernet cable upstairs but I don't want to pull up the carpets/floorboards.

PM sent Andy.

When I have a new house build I'll definitely be having it fully wired up, even though I'll probably use wifi most of the time.

Was about to start a new thread but found this. Although it's 3 years out of date what is currently advised please I have plenty of sockets so don't need a pass through type. Just need it for TV but was wondering am I better getting wireless hotspot too?

Any advice recommendations appreciated please and where could I get a pair from today.

I use the TP Link Powerline AV500, wired and wireless quality is outstanding. The additional wireless part gives brilliant coverage for the far end of my house where the signal from the router is weak.

I got mine from Asda as they were mispriced, but they have them in Tesco and Argos and Currys PC World.

My powerline adaptors are still going strong, giving better speed than wireless and proving more reliable than the sodding router they are connected to!!

I still use 1 of the wireless plugs, but only for the tivo that can't do wireless.

The new TV has built in wifi, and it can stream full HD from iPlayer and even 4k demo's from youtube without any problems.

I stopped using most of my repeaters, they were more trouble than they were worth, I bought a newer mimo 802.11ac router that provides better coverage through the house.
