Keyboard not responding, but mouse working

Recommended Posts

Having to post this on my phone as my keyboard has 'died'.

The mouse is working, but none of the keys will respond.

I had noticed that the cursor seemed to vanish and come back at will

I tried looking at the drivers, no luck.

The USB ports also seem to be playing up, as not all of them are working.

Have you rebooted? It could be something as simple as a reboot that solves this sort of thing.

Failing that, have you checked that no wires have come loose and tried an alternate keyboard?

Is it a desktop or a laptop?

Make/model?

First thing would be to try and determine weather it's a hardware or software issue, the easiest way to do this with a keyboard would be to see if it allows you to enter your BIOS.

Turn on your machine and look for the key needed to enter the BIOS (usually along the bottom) Tap DEL to enter SETUP etc.

Hi sidbobs.

the machine is a Medion, a desktop. (don't know the model)

I've attached a newly bought keyboard to a different port, and, as you can see, I'm (currently) posting successfully.

Only those 2 ports (this one and the one that the mouse is connected to) seem to be working, I've had to detach the other USB devices, including printer and speakers.

The other ports seem to have detected the KB being attached, but were saying the software hasn't been successfully installed.

Someone has said that it's possible that the motherboard is on its way out, and that's why the ports aren't responding.
