Ive just bought a digital camera can anyone recommend a magazine/publication for beginners?

Not familiar with magazines, but plenty of books in the library. Might also be an idea to join a camera club or do a photography course. Have you posted on the Photographic Section in the Sheffield interest groups section of SF, they might know about photographic magazines.

 

Also nothing like practise and trial and error...

There are many tutorials both for your camera and also techniques on you tube.

Photography for Beginners is a good basic magazine. Its informative and full of ideas. Mixing with other photographers via a club or society is also a good idea. I have been taking photographs for a few years and still consider myself a beginner. Just go out there, take loads of shots, try different things but most importantly, enjoy it.

try the discount bookshop in meadowhall. I got a couple of decent ones from there.

Just took out an offer on greatmagazines website.

5 quid for 5 issues of Practical photography with a free SD card (they actually sent an 8GB instead of the advertised 16GB but still worth more than a fiver!) Of course you can cancel straight after the 5 issues if you like. The guy on the phone also did me 3 issues of another magazine from quite a big selection for only a pound too. Must remember to cancel though...
