The prem baby units at Jessops and Rotherham are always after blankets, so is the cats shelter.

You could knit Blankets for the Animal Rescues they have so many abandoned cats and dogs this year, more than they have ever had, there is the

Cat Shelter at Broomhill and RainRescue they would be so grateful of them.

Hi, I run an online knitting group and we knit for a variety of charities including local branches of RSPCA, Sheffield childrens Hospital, Sheffield Dog Rescue, Sheffield Cathedral( The Archer Project)

Officially you have to be registered with the taxman to do that and selling stuff isn't without its costs. Unfortunately.

The Cystic Fibrosis trust has appealed for people to knit legwarmers made of natural fibres. They plan to sell them online next Christmas to raise funds. Apparently kids with CF benefit from lots of trampolining and legwarmers are ideal for this. I heard about it on BBC Sheffield a few months ago. :)

If its actual patterns you're thinking of, there's a free wooly hat pattern you can download on the net, also 'knitting pattern central' has absolutely hundreds of free patterns to choose from. good luck with your endeavour, a very worthy past time. :0)
