Help me find a wedding venue!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking for a place to get married in summer of 2014 and i'm hoping for a few recommendations!

We do have a few criteria that may narrow things down a bit...they certainly rule out a lot of the places i've seen...

We want a civil ceremony

Ceremony + reception in the same place

Somewhere with a bit of character (not a hotel conference room with some flowers in)

Max 150 guests for the reception

Up to 130-140 people for the ceremony

Accommodation for at least the most important guests (20-30ish) on site

Wheelchair friendly

Exclusive use would be nice but not essential

We are willing to cast the net fairly wide, anywhere essentially in the area between sheffield/doncaster/york.

Any suggestions?? Thanks.

We've been booked to play at a place called The Rise in Hull. Looks pretty special!

We also played St Williams college in York, next to the Minster. Gorgeous place!

Have you looked at cubley hall in penistone? They have 12 hotel rooms g

For your use. They have an old barn which is where they old the civil ceremony and also the evening reception. You can get married outside on their bandstand. There s a Max of around 180 guests. It is exclusive use and wheelchair friendly!!

We got married at Hellaby Hall near Rotherham and I would say it meets all your requirements! We had a perfect day, everything went smoothly and as we wanted - ceremony and night do. We had 30 guests who all stayed overnight and the honeymoon suite is fantastic!

Would definitely recommend you go for a look round.

Hargate Hall. We got married there a cpl years ago and we've been back to visit since. It's a huge stately home in the Peak District, you rent the entire place and grounds for the full weekend. There's enough room to sleep 70 odd people, and the price of the rooms is usually passed on to the guests. It cost us £500 to hire it after people'd paid for their rooms.

Go visit the place and you'll fall in love with how quirky the bedrooms are.

Oh, and sorry I don't sound too enthusiastic about it, but I'm dog tired. But the place is just beautiful. We fell in love with it, so much so that when they had a competition to win a weekend there by writing about the place, I had to enter:

I went to see Tankersley manor with a couple yesterday and it had really lovely stone walls all the way through. Also has a lovely view for photos.

Heres a few other suggestions for you of venues I've photographed weddings at which maybe like you have in mind:

Mosborough Hall:

Whitley hall:

Ringwood hall has some lovely features and the ceremony room is beautiful, You can also get married out side there too:

Kenwood Hall is a hotel but it has some nice features and gardens:

Best of luck with your day,

Whitley Hall is great. We got married there a few weeks ago and had exactly the same requirements as you! Highly recommended and they have special offers on at the moment.

Whitley Hall is great. We've just returned from there any have been pleasantly surprised whilst meeting with a prospective couple. I don't think the website really does the place justice. It is definitely worth a visit and feels really calm and secluded.
