Key safes, where and which

Recommended Posts

The only one I'd be happy installing is the supra c500 as this is approved by insurance company's and meets the requirments of the police security initiative, Secure by design.

Avalable from h Harold's for around £50

rather than have a key outside, would something like these be more suitable?

It's a digital lock, and you have to enter a code to get access.

There's no key to worry about, and the code can be given only to those who are authorised to be in the property...

It looks good that one but I have one concern:

"Fingerprint resistant"

Would it not in fact be better if you could leave a print on it in the event that a would-be attacker tries to open it?

Seems a reasonable solution, albeit very expensive.

I'd go for a cheap one. A burglar will find an easier way in than breaking a key safe from the wall then smashing it open.

I think if you did you'd find your house insurance would be invalid if it didn't meet their specified standards.

NOTE

If you are able to do so get one of the slighly more expensive ones where everything is hinged, the cheaper ones you have to take the weather cover off , find some where to put it , put the code in the front comes off you then have to find somewhere to put it while you get the key out. You then need to put everything back. The hinged versions just open so its easier.

Have you asked if the council can provide and or fit one they did ours, we found the price very reasonable and the fitting was excellent

The fingerprint and scratch resistance is so that no-one can see which buttons you are pressing to open the key safe. If there are visible fingerprints around the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 then the thief knows what the numbers are and just needs to try a few permutations.

just to add to this - we can fit you one that sends you a text every time someone opens the box to use the key.

works both ways, you know mums had her visit or not!

Sheffield council provide and fit key locks, for a charge. It is the same office that organise city wide alarms, if you mum, or anyone's vulnerable family and friends, do not have a city wide alarm please look into getting one. They save lives! If a fit and health person falls they can easily get up of the floor, but if pan elderly/less able bodied person falls they cannot, particularly if they sustain an injury.

City wide alarms is a good service to have well worth the cost at around twenty pound per month for peace of mind.
