ricgem2002 Â Â 11 #2 Posted January 6, 2013 no but you just have to look around all areas of sheffield that had council houses demolished intentionally
 Share this content via...
MikeOnline   10 #3 Posted January 6, 2013 Wards brewery, Ecclesall Rd. ECCOnoob   1,029 #6 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) The corn exchange, The Norfolk Market Hall, The Arcade on Pinstone St, The Empire Theatre, The Gaumont Cinema, The Rex Cinema, The Classic Cinema,The Wedding Cake, The Hole in the Road,The Adelphi, The Albert, Coles, The cooling Towers, The Playhouse, Darnall Dog Track,Bramall Lane Cricket Pavilion,Brown Bailey's,Firth Browns, and hundreds more buildings that made Sheffield unique. All soon to be joined by the unique Castle Market.  Yes all very nice but what are we doing with them. If an owner leaves/closes down - then what?  Who pays for the upkeep, ongoing maintenance, repairs, rates and taxes.  Do they just sit there empty? Do you expect companies to be FORCED into using them rather than building their own? If so who compensates the extra cost of converting an old building vs knocking up a new one. Who is responsible and pays for the changes required and expenses of complying with new legislation, safety codes, fire regulations, disability access etc.  Its all well and good campaigning for things to be saved but they have to have a purpose to pay the bills. Its no good keeping something unoccupied and not serving a purpose just because it looks pretty.  Someone always has to pay the bill at the end of it.  Unlike places like York, Chester and Edinburgh and London we are not and never will be a major tourist city. Those tourists that do come are not flocking to the city for our historical importance and architecture. MikeOnline   10 #7 Posted January 6, 2013 Not sure why SCC would have got any monies but no doubt Vaux did and what would we have done with a redundant brewery  Vaux did'nt own the LAND. S.C.C did. Vaux screwed the wards workers and blocked a management buyout and S.C.C. SOLD the land to the highest bidder. How low can you go?. S.C.C. Does NOT consist of sheffield people. If it did we would'nt be where we are now.
 Share this content via...

Wardsbitter   10 #11 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Because we don't get flocks of tourists coming to see them that's no reason to knock them down for no valid reason Edited January 6, 2013 by Wardsbitter word missed out
 Share this content via...
