Penistone999 10 #37 Posted January 5, 2013 The same number that have had their hours cut. How many dumpit site workers have had their pay cut? Do you describe everyone who works in an office, public or private sector, as a "pen pusher"? All of them due to the cut in hrs the dumps are open . For example at Deepcar tip where i go , they have gone from 7 day opening to 6 days opening, so even during the winter opening hrs the lads there are 6 hrs a week down. ---------- Post added 05-01-2013 at 19:20 ---------- The same number that have had their hours cut. Longcol 598 #38 Posted January 5, 2013 Is this right? Apparently in the financial year 2006/7, there were 253 Sheffield Council employees earning at least £50,000. In the financial year 2011/12, that number had risen to 391! I thought our council was meant to be trying to save money, so why are they now paying 138 more people over £50,000? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2257385/The-apocalypse-The-Labour-councils-squandering-cash-tomorrow-despite-claiming-cuts-taken-brink-civil-unrest.html We're doing pretty well then - Leeds has over 650 staff earning £50k plus according to their last set of accounts. And 248 of the 391 are teachers.
 Share this content via...

That easy 10 #40 Posted January 5, 2013 Its outragous that the council moans so much about a lack of money thanks to the coalition government, yet over the past year or so has greatly increased the amount of staff on 50k salaries. Going forward, complaining about a shortage of cash is going to lack credibility now.
 Share this content via...

All public servants should be paid in food only, except when they can verify that their clothing is worn out and unrepairable, and then they should be given old clothes that have been pre-worn by you. Of course, it is possible that 138 people were just below £50k, e.g. £49,999, and now earn £50,001 a year, which would be a well below inflation increase, so effectively a pay cut. Not that that's an excuse, because anything more than whatever it is that you get paid could ever be right, no matter how valuable these people are! Same in the NHS - they only save lives. What could they possibly do that would be worth a salary! It's footballers who deserve big salaries, and much more than £50k a year - more like £50k a week, because they kick a ball around, and that's worth all the gold in the world! ---------- Post added 05-01-2013 at 19:45 ---------- Its outragous that the council moans so much about a lack of money thanks to the coalition government, yet over the past year or so has greatly increased the amount of staff on 50k salaries. You know it makes sense, because it will save loads of money. That money can then go err... into err... the bosses' pockets! ---------- Post added 05-01-2013 at 19:46 ---------- Explains the pot holes then....,Hardly!... ---------- Post added 05-01-2013 at 19:48 ---------- They're just lining their pockets at the publics expense, knowing that if anyone complains they can blame it on the Tories. This is what you get when you vote Labour. They are utter venal scum!Unlike the Tories who are nice, clean, trustworthy, decent, honest God-fearing folk who would NEVER ever cheat a tax-payer. It's never happened. There are no historical records of any Tory ever stealing, misappropriating, lying, or even kiddie-fiddling. Err... mike84 13 #46 Posted January 5, 2013 No it was full pay - I'm presuming we know the same person ... The terms and conditions are up to 6 months full pay depending on how long the person has worked for the council. 6 months half pay, again, dependent on how long the person has worked for the council. When you receive the 1/2 pay, you'd also get SSP. Nobody receives full pay for 12 months that works for Sheffield Council, if they told you they did then i'd guess that they were telling porkies... SevenRivers 10 #48 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) Since when has £50k been a "vast" salary? Check how the salaries of Directors and Chief Execs at Councils compare to similar size private sector organisations and you will find that the Council remuneration is not generous at all. It's not a matter of how public sector salaries compare with private sector, it's about the number of employees on over £50,000. Financial Year 2006/7 was pre-credit crunch which started to occur in the second half of 2007 with the fall of Northern Rock and numerous other banks, so the 2006/7 figures for numbers of employees earning over £50,000 should have represented a peak. Instead, we're now as a city employing more people earning over £50,000 than before the financial crisis started, which is absolutely barmy. What is the council doing now that is didn't in 2006/7? What extra services are being delivered for the number of extra people earning over £50k? If it can be shown that more services are being provided for those people, that debunks the myth about cutting services. If it's wage inflation that has taken more people over £50k, that debunks the myth about wage freezes. ---------- Post added 05-01-2013 at 22:06 ---------- Now this is interesting. This blog post from Jan 2012 reveals SCC were employing 13x "Climate Change Officers", costing over £600,000. http://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/climate-change-officers-at-sheffield-city-council/ Edited January 5, 2013 by SevenRivers
 Share this content via...
