Eric_Collins   11 #1 Posted January 1, 2013 I got my email today telling me installuous has been closed due to anti pirate laws. Now no big deal for me I'm not jail broke so not really bothered.  Now will this mean the sale of big gig iPads and iPhone sales will tumble as many people will go for 16gb due not being able to fill them with pirate software ? People who don't want to pay for apps are the key market for the most expensive unit? I'd say the 64Gb iPad is primarily bought by those with a higher median income who are less likely to jailbreak anyway. I couldn't justify spending nearly £700 on the top spec, so I went for the 16Gb wifi version.  A game that costs 69p can weigh in at 1.5Gb (as can an interactive book) so why would those with the funds go for the entry level model? So if you have a 16gb unit and you like first person shooters then you can only have about 6 games installed on your unit at a time ( 16gb iPads show as 13gb free space after the OS use )  Also most I'm guessing are on some sort of credit either iphone/ipad contract or like me 10months interest free from apple. When I had my first gen iPad at 16gb I wished I could have got a bigger one as I had it jail broke and chocked with games. Origin_Pete   10 #4 Posted January 1, 2013 That's right... so why would sales of the larger capacity iPads and phones decrease?
 Share this content via...
Eric_Collins   11 #5 Posted January 1, 2013 That's right... so why would sales of the larger capacity iPads and phones decrease?  With installuous it gives more option to download more contents without the cost. It also gives you access to software not normally open in the apple store. One that was i saw was a full HD pornography downloaded app. It either streamed or downloaded hardcore direct to your machine. Now I can see that would chock up someone's pad. Fil-Lip   10 #7 Posted January 1, 2013 I use installous but also purchase through the App Store. Yes installous has closed but all apps still available through other means. Won't post here as that's against rules but I'm back up again using another app that does the same.
 Share this content via...

For starters the latest iPads and Phones haven't been jailbroken yet, so the idea that the only reason people only need a large capacity for apps is absurd. Movies and music take up the space, not apps. My 64gig iPad has about 150 apps, - and they only take up 9GB of the total space.  And most people don't steal apps anyway - its not worth it when they only cost pennies in the first place.  ---------- Post added 01-01-2013 at 18:03 ----------  With installuous it gives more option to download more contents without the cost. Tomtom £35 , Garmin £15 , most latest games £5 top titles, these are a few I know of I'm sure there are more. You also require an app to download pirate movies/porn which can weigh in at over a gig per title at true HD.  And I'm afraid stealing apps is big business and international. Not last month there was a huge convention out over in India that was an open forum ( not the online type ) with the top jail breakers like muscleman nurd. stereolab   10 #12 Posted January 1, 2013 Am I reading this right ? So why does apple keep releasing security updates the their operating systems to prevent jailbreaking ?  How many people do you think jailbreak?  Most estimates are less than 10% - Apple would of course prefer it to be zero.
