Is City Centre parking free on New Year's Day?

Recommended Posts

You won't find anything on the council's website regarding on-street parking on New Year's Day.

And why not? Because folk will park up thinking it's free only to come back and see a penalty notice on their windscreen.

That's how the council likes it. They come off their Christmas/New Year break and WOAH, LOOK AT THE REVENUE FROM FINES!!!

I parked in the council car park (Rockingham Street?) where the old fire station was, on Boxing Day. The main sign at the enterence said in small print that Bank Holidays were free, but this wasn't mentioned on the machine its self. I did not pay but nearly everyone else did.... so how much revenue did the council collect as a result of people being unsure and worried about getting a fine?

As bus man says, read the machine and any notices very carefully.
