Markers what are they ?

Recommended Posts

Just got back from a lovely walk around Grenoside, warncliffe & Wortley through the woodlands.

I came across round wooden post markers with Red & Yellow bands painted on them.

Does anyone know what they are,i have googled it but to no avail.

Thanks :)

Not 100% sure but I think 1 could be Sheffield boundary route and 1 transpennine trail route

Could be boundary markers for the purpose of woodland management or maybe markers identifying the path of power lines or gas/water pipes.

Hi Pops,

they could be marker pegs to identify the route where the oxygen pipeline was installed from BOC to the steelworks at Stocksbridge.

I would say it is a way marked route in the woods - if it has 2 colours this is where it over laps.

Various walking/cycling routes are available on the Sheffield CC website or some are on Bradfield PC /Ecclesfield PC websites and maybe try Barnsley Council webite as they all meet at this location.
