UKIP candid Geoffrey Clark calls for disabled foetuses to be aborted

OK. If it's a fair question, here's a fair answer.

UKIP is neither left nor right, you see.

Left = socialist, high-tax-rates, statist, anti-capitalist, pro-poorer.

Right = capitalist, low-interest-rates, conglomeratist, anti-socialist, pro-richer.

.

Let us just examine a couple of items of your ill thought out reply:

Left: High Tax...

As you will see from this link, that is palpably untrue. For example, the tax take during most of the Thatcher Government was higher than the tax take during the Blair Government. So your claim is bunkum.

Right: Low interest rates.

You must be joking. Again, compare the Thatcher Government to the Blair Government. . So your claim is bunkum.

I could go on.

What I really don't get is why UKIP are pretending to be something that they are not. They have set themselves up to the right of The Tories, yet they pretend to be "different" in some way.

Sadly, their local candidates don't seem to understand any historical, political context at all. I'd have thought that was a pre-requisite to understanding UKIP's position in the current UK political situation.

They are against gay marriage.

Gay people can get married just the same as everyone else following the same laws as everyone else, so how is it discrimination.

Describing UKIP as "far right" is a bit silly. Right of centre, fair enough, but far right?

I think to some if you are not centre or left of centre, then you must be far right. It serves to try to de-legitimise opposing opinion.

I haven't read all the posts but wanted to add my opinion.

My son has autism and is classed as disabled. I find it disgusting he could even say that!

I could not imagine my life without my son. He has made me a better person. I think if a parent is able to cope then there should be no reason not to have a child. every life is precious.

i often hear the argument that its a drain on the nhs etc. so are the thousands of drug addicts alcoholics etc but no-one suggests we terminate them!

Just three policies picked out more or less at random from UKIP's manifesto:

• Repeal the Human Rights Act to end abuses by convicted criminals and illegal immigrants.

• Free the police force from the straitjacket of political correctness and ‘targets’.

• Our traditional values have been undermined. Children are taught to be ashamed of our past. Multiculturalism has split our society. Political correctness is stifling free speech.

If it looks, smells and acts like a far-right party, it is one.

PS They would also bring back smoking in public places - how barmy is that?

You are aware of the difference between gay and straight people, aren't you?

If so, then you really should be able to answer your own question if you think hard enough.

I'll meet you half way. They are right of the Tories, left of the BNP. They certainly are not the centrist "libertarian" party that they would have us all believe.

You had your chance to add to the debate up there ^^^. You chose not to.

Where do you think that UKIP sit in the spectrum of UK politics? Why?

The first is government policy, the second is basic common sense and the third is the sort of vague meaningless rubbish politicians spout to get elected. None of it is "far right".

Giving the police free rein and rapidly expanding the millitary is a bit worrying though. Don't you think?

Not yet, they can't - and UKIP opposes any proposal to allow gay people to marry.

Conveniently. Not party policy though. Or, it wasn't.

An action designed to hoover up the votes of thousands of Daily Telegraph readers.

How is it 'basic common sense' to repeal the Human Rights Act?

And promising to make life sentences mean life, and to give the police more power, are generally accepted to be right wing policies.

I too would place UKIP to the right of the Tories and slightly to the left of Ghengis Khan/BNP. The only difference between UKIP and BNP is that they are slightly craftier and have learnt how to keep their racism 'under the radar', legally speaking.
