2014 Tour de France will start in Yorkshire and come to Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Driving around Sheffield early this morning, I was going to ask when are the council going to give motorist road side advance notice of road closures as I noticed no signs had gone up yet.

But on a drive up to Grenoside this afternoon it looks like the council have been out in force at some point today. Road closures notices up and warnings that any vehicle on the route on Sunday 6th will get towed.

There are signs up now on Hillsborough and Middlewood Road saying the road will be closed but why as far down as Hillsborough I don't know.

I can understand them closing it say from Middlewood Tram terminus to stop drivers heading towards Oughtibridge but I can't see it necessary before the tram terminus.

Is there any indication as to what time the road closes and on what day please.

7.30 - 19.30 on the day of the race with some roads around the finish area been closed from 18.00 the day before.

Was reading that the Woodhead Pass and A616 up to the turn off for Mortimer Road / Midhopestones will be closed from just after midnight on Sunday the 6th.

At least you admit pedal cyclists don't pay road tax.

So the owners of the vehicles you mentioned don't have to don't pay road tax as well as pedal cyclists.

Two wrongs never make a right.

And does not alter the fact that pedal cyclists don't pay road tax.

At least with the other exempt vehicles they have 3rd party insurance and their vehicle has to be fit for the road.

Emissions or not they still have to have a tax disc displayed on them. Pedal cycles do not.

Is it really any wonder that other road users get hacked off with pedal cyclists, especially when even IF they know the highway code or basic trafiic laws they choose to ignore them.

.

I agree that 2 wrongs don't make a right, but no wrongs usually do make a right. Irrespective of your opinion it is not wrong that that cyclists are not charged 'road tax' and I'm afraid that you're going to have to learn to work out a way that you can deal with this fact.

You're also wrong with your other point as well, as not all cyclists choose not to follow the highway code, just as not all car drivers choose not to follow highway code.

I do get why cyclists frustrate you however, it must be grate when you're stuck in endless traffic jams and you have to witness the cyclist after cyclist pass you as they go on their merry way.

From the South side of the city there should be no problem reaching the City Centre whether by bus, train, tram or car.

A limited bus service will run in North Sheffield and no buses will run from North Shefield into the City Centre during the event. Routes by car will be limited too.

There is plenty of parking in Sheffield City Centre and also at the Supertram Park & Ride sites (eg Halfway and Nunnery Square).

A regular tram service will run from the City Centre to Meadowhall (up to every 4 minutes), to Middlewood (every 8 minutes), Malin Bridge (every 30 minutes), Halfway (every 16 minutes) and Herdings Park (every 30 minutes).

A regular train service will run from Sheffield Station to Meadowhall, Chapeltown and Barnsley.

It also visited our shores in 1994 as well. Something to do with the Eurotunnel opening that year I think. So this year would be it's 4th visit to England and 2nd time hosting the grand depart. I'm very surprised DUTCH didn't know this.

Why are you surprised? I don't bother keeping statistical information pumped in my head like most people do, rather give it the room and space to enjoy every moment as it comes.

Probably been melted down by SCC's crack recycling team for road markings and grit bins. :)

Werent you banging on about how you watched 4 hours a day of TDF because you take it seriously and have done so ever since you were a baby. Contrast that with the hypocritical sheffielders who dare be interested or turn up to watch the event. Im surpised they havent made a spectator spot just for you.
