2014 Tour de France will start in Yorkshire and come to Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Aye, 9pm was the time stated the Woodhead would reopen, God knows why after the race went through at 3pm.

Angel.

Does anyone know if Holme Lane, Pennistone road and Herries road are open yet?

I came down Holme lane about an hour ago.

Because there's an awful lot of rubbish to clear up after the race has passed and all of the spectators have gone. The TdF has a tidying and litter picking crew that follows along, picking up thrown bidons, lunch bags and gel wrappers and the like and then that is followed along by councils removing barriers and signage.

All of this takes time to cover the huge amount of ground that the cyclists cover in a day and leave the places they visit as tidy as when they arrived.

You'd think the cyclists'd have a wicker basket on the handlebars to put their picnic leftovers into ... most people go to prison for littering the countryside (and rightly so)!

What a day! The crowds at Jenkin were friendly, enthusiastic, well behaved and numerous. By the time many of the riders reached Jenkins they were done, lots of grimacing and pained faces, the perfect bike race. Now time for a curry and the race replay.

you think the litter is from the few competitors taking part in the race? They were actually disposing of waste at designated points, it's more from our fellow county men who should be fined.

What a great day. Was on Halifax road and there was a real street party atmosphere

Halifax Road was great, not too full to not get a good view, we'd set up camp by 11:00 in the central reservation, great atmosphere, loads of neighbours chatting and saying hello for the first time. Had friends pop up and we're all now partied out.

I got some fab photos too :)

Great day.

Jenkins road seemed quite tidy while I was walking down, remember the tour is used to dirty Frenchmen ;) not the responsible Yorkshireman.

They did it deliberately to wind up the miserable buggers who survived the collapse of the NHS.
