the_mandarin   15 #325 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi ... I was looking for some information about the cost of buying and installing a new gas boiler. A search on Google left me more confused than I started off with, so here is what I am trying to figure out:  1. Is a Gas-Combi boiler still an option, or does it have to be a Condensing Gas Combi boiler these days? I read of one forum that some law has made the latter mandatory!  2. What is the total cost that I am looking at?  3. Any recommended places to buy from? http://www.bhl.co.uk seems to have good reviews, but they do not provide an installation service.  Thanks in advance
 Share this content via...

A 'like for like' swap would work out less. All boilers are condensing now and are very efficient (90%)
 Share this content via...
LOGIK Â Â 10 #328 Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) I have a Worcester Bosh 35CDi combi boiler that is showing an "Air flow fault (RSF). Flue gas spillage" fault. I need somebody to come out and diagnose the cause of the fault and order part(s) to fix it. Â I am in Sheffield S8, hope somebody can help! Â More info on the fault below, I've just had to wait 20 minutes to get the boiler going again so I'm leaning towards option 2 Â 1. "AIR FLOW DEVICE (RSF ONLY) Â The appliance will enter a lockout condition in the event of an air flow fault. If the controls fail to detect the correct air flow through the appliance the electricity supply to the gas valve will be interrupted. If an air flow fault has occurred, the domestic water demand indicator will flash (approximately five times per second). The appliance will try to re-light after a waiting period of approximately 4 minutes Check that the flue terminal has not been obstructed or damaged. If this condition continues to occur, then call a service engineer. Â 2. FLUE SPILLAGE DEVICE (OF ONLY) Â The appliance is fitted with a device which detects the spillage of combustion products from the draught diverter. In the event of the flue becoming wholly or partly blocked this device will cut the gas supply to the burner. If the device has activated, the D.H.W. demand indicator will flash (approximately 5 times per second). The device automatically resets after a waiting period of approximately 20 minutes. If the blockage remains the appliance will re-light briefly before the device operates again. Should the problem persist consult your service engineer." Leeman   10 #329 Posted March 16, 2013 The spillage device is only fitted to open flued boilers and yours is room sealed. Sounds more likely to be faulty air pressure switch which is really common or faulty fan.
 Share this content via...

cv65user   10 #332 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) i have a pressurised system with ideal icos boiler keeps flashing L F . if i press reset it will work again for few days / few hours. pressure i left on 1.5 bar. hot water and central heating is fine when it works.  i just moved into house , i got a certificate to say boiler was last service sept 2012. boiler is 7 years old . and boiler was OK over one month in dec 2012 because i left it on to tickle over to prevent frosting up.  manual indicates flame went out . http://www.idealheating.com/downloads/manuals/155695.pdf  when i do press reset i check the pressure guage under neath the boiler and it says it is below 1 bar. then it will rise to 2 bar when in use. so i am not sure if it is loosing pressure causing it to cut out or corodded ignition. internet does say these boilers are notoriously bad for pcb failure/ insulation falling off and putting flame out / blocked traps  location is bramley Edited March 18, 2013 by cv65user
 Share this content via...

TrashyBook   10 #334 Posted March 19, 2013 T ry and find the instructions on line put brand new duracell batteries in and then re sync the controller and the receiver if this doesn't work you may have a faulty unit ! if you are not covered under a homecare plan I would change and go with honey well controls they are far easier to use than drayton (bg ones)  It worked ok for a few days, bizarrely after changing wifi channel on router, just in case it was conflicting. We thought that had fixed it, but it started playing up again yesterday.  Tried brand new duracell batteries, have checked water pressure (ok), and re-synched the controller and receiver.  Receiver is now flashing red and green when it should, depending on what is pressed on the remote. So that seems to be working ok, it's just that the signal doesn't seem to be getting passed on to the boiler from the receiver. At the moment, I can only get the boiler to come on at all by pressing the spanner button.  Is it time to call out a friendly boiler repair man?
