sheff71 Â Â 10 #403 Posted October 31, 2013 Just a quick plea on behalf of my sister (and her 4 young kids). Their boiler packed up completely at the end of last week (I believe it was a Potterton Performa, 28?), and had a plumber round looking at it that felt it would cost too much to replace the faulty parts, and even then wouldn't last maybe 6 months. Â She applied for the Free Boiler Scheme, but has been advised by them that it's at least 10 weeks until they'll be able to be fitted (and 6 weeks until the first assessment is made!), through B&Q's free boiler scheme, and had a similar answer from Affordable Homes... so with winter approaching, not a good option. Â So she had BG take a look at it today, as she was told before it's not worth repairing, but the cost they've quoted seems (to us) very high - and 60% of that cost is on the fitting rather than the new boiler (i'm not sure if I can post the figures in here, so I won't at this stage!). The boiler BG recommended is a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i High (apparently). It's a 4 bedroom semi-detached house. Â She was considering BG if she could pay for it over time through her fuel bill (as they advertise this on their site), but the BG guy said they don't offer this now as it's been abused... and he didn't mention anything being knocked off for the scrappage scheme they also advertise... Â Anyway, to the point - can anyone suggest some alternative to BG that would be more competitive and ideally as quick as their quote - the house is very very cold at the moment, and would like to get this sorted as soon as possible, with the kids back at school next week. Â Any assistance greatly appreciated - she is at her wit's end at the moment, and I haven't got a clue about boilers...
 Share this content via...

We are also baxi/potterton boiler specialist so have a good knowledge on her current boiler, We could come and pre approve her tommorow and then have a look at the boiler and see if we can get it going, If your sister qualifies for the funding and goes ahead with the affordable warmth scheme through us we will repair her existing boiler free of charge!
