Stone Terrace or 1930's Semi?

Hi

Just after a bit of advice, hopefully from people with first hand experience.

We're mulling a move from our crookes house up to crosspool in the near future. We've looked at a few semi's, with the main aim to get into a less studenty area with a bit more space. We've found most of these semi's to be nice with big gardens but with no more space inside than our current property, and with prices for a well done-out 3 bed semi now around £230-250k they are at the top of our range.

We also have concerns about the build quality, especially in terms of sound transmission between the party wall (I'm not a fan of noise).

We have also spotted a couple of stone fronted terraces near crosspool centre that look bigger, with decent gardens but are connected on both sides.

Does anyone have any experience of terraced living in the crosspool area? Any downsides you've come across (aside from lack on off-street and smaller garden?)

All views appreciated.

Several of my friends have lived / live in terraced houses in the area - No noitceable problems with noise, but a lot of that is down to how noisy your neighbours are in the first place......

I assume the ones you have spotted are on Manchester Road, between the Church and the Chapel?

We're interested in couple currently up for sale on Selbourne road, off sandygate. So these are purpose built 3 level town houses more than traditional terraces.

Agree it totally depends on who is next door, though I guess in crosspool we're more likely to be next to couples/ young families rather that students. In that case a terrace would be a good option.

Selbourne Road is queit enough, handy for the shops an all :) Gets a bit swamped with all the school kids at lunch times and after school though round Crosspool centre

yeh I'm aware that tapton is close by, school kids around the shops isn't really a concern, though slightly concerned that the road is a bit too mixed commerical/residential and would therefore be a bit noisy at times, may be hard to park too.

Will take a look and see how it feels.

I have done lots of work in Crosspool. Selbourne Road is ok except for the parents dropping off their kids for school and some sometimes leave their car there all day. Check that the walls have a cavity. The government is hoping to insulate all solid walls in the next 15 years or so but the options of insulating on the inside could mean smaller rooms. I would go for a house with a cavity, also the party walls on a semi will have a small cavity as a terrace will be solid.

Wow 230k to 250k for a semi !

Just shows how you pay out of the nose for the supposed better post codes :)

You pay through the nose for the schools mainly, though I agree its a bit much.

We've had a think and I don't think selbourne is an option, OH has cats and is rightly concerned about traffic through to Manchester road, even though the houses look great.

Its going to be a toss-up between space inside and out I think.
