DUFFEMS Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Navy blue suit with light grey/pale blue shirt and brown tie is quite popular at the moment. Avoid wide pin stripes, not really in. Cant go wrong with a classic charcoal grey suit and white shirt. Can wear most kinds of tie without a colour clash. I always think double cuff shirts with classy not tacky cuff links look smart. I'll second this. Don't buy anything too in fashion, stick with plain not stripes and, preferably plain shirts too, white always looks crisp, you can wear any colour/pattern tie with these. I'd also go with double cuffs worn with neat cuff links, not themed i.e. football/beer/funny. You can still be yourself by being different.

If I was going to buy an off-the-peg suit I'd go for these http://www.dnagroove.it/en/prodotti.php?idcat=9&cat=man This guy makes limited edition suits at a reasonable price. Personally I don't want to be like everyone else so I always go bespoke but this guy makes some class stuff. What I would say is, if someone does decide to buy an off-the-peg suit, take it along to a tailor and spend £100 or so on geting it fitted correctly. When buying clothes you should consider style/cut, colour and texture. You need to compliment your clothes in these three factors. Here are some general ideas. http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/how-to-look-your-best/how-men-see-colors http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/category/clothing/style-tips For general dicussion ask here http://www.styleforum.net/f/5/mens-clothing But be careful because a lot of these guys are Americans and so their dress sense might be a little different.

Michael Caine wore one in Sleuth, playing the role of a camp hairdresser opposite Sir LO.I thought the choice of suit reduced his need to act the part.
Expat owl Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Marks & Spencers classic navy blue single breasted suit with a crisp white, double cuffed, shirt and a navy tie. Marks suits will wear twice as well as all the fashion suits, especially as you'll be getting in and out of cars all day, and you should buy an extra pair of trousers with each suit and alternate the wear between them. Always, always stick to two colours (ie blue suit and tie and mix the colours of your shirts. This way you'll maintain individuality without looking like a trendy idiot. Finally remember the rules. Never wear brown in town !! This means that brown suits, ties, etc are a complete no no and never, never wear brown shoes no matter how trendy and fashionable people think they are !! Finally never ever fasten the bottom button of your suit. remember the three button rule from top to bottom..sometimes, always, never. For a two button suit it's obviously the second two that apply, ie always, never. First impressions still count and no matter how many people advise that it doesn't matter, trust me it does !!!!The trendy looking idiots get noticed straight away and it's very hard to then change a persons perceptions. Been succesfull in the city and in sales for a good few years so hope this helps.
rainbow2411 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I know it's a little of the subject but could someone tell me why men still wear ties? A small piece of material made into noose around the neck just seems to outdated and often very silly.

scousemouse Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Brown shoes with a grey suit.................NEVER!!! A smart navy suit with a crisp white shirt and tie takes some beating and doesn't date. Always wear a tie with a suit.
