Private Parking Charge Notices [PCN] - Megathread - ALL questions in here

Recommended Posts

My son recently parked in the Meadowhall Retail Park after the shops were closed at around 7.15 pm to go to the Centertainment he returned at 11.15 there were hardly any cars parked in this massive car park.

However, you guessed it, he received a Contractual Parking Charge Notice.

Two questions:

Do we have to pay it?

What happens if we don't

I could understand that they don't want people taking up spaces for shoppers but if none of the shops are open and the car park is empty then I feel that its another one of those money making rackets.

Any advice is appreciated:thumbsup:

There are many threads on here on the subject - parking 'fines' from private companies.

The general consensus is ignore it. Don't reply or anything. You'll get reminders for a few months and threats of court action etc but they NEVER go as far as court, once they realise you're not paying they'll stop writing.

Friend of mine got one last New Year's Eve. Never paid it. The letters have stopped.

As long as he was in the retail park and not parked on the road between the 2 car parks (in which case it is council owned) then it should be fine to ignore it

Yep, private firms have no legal right to ticket you and expect payment.

I worked on Velocity Tower years ago at the bottom of Ecclesall Road and used to park in Waitrose car park every day. I used to get a ticket every day. It was quite good fun pointing out to the ticket mafia that they were wasting their time as they did it every day and I had no intention of paying.

Bless em, they used to get quite worked up!

It was the highlight of my day, I know it was wrong but who could resist winding the buggers up ;).

Admin Team Note:

In response to feedback from our members, we have decided to have one thread for all private parking charge queries. Please use this thread to ask for advice if you receive a charge for parking on private land, but do not use this thread to ask for advice about fines issued by the council or police.

As always, if you choose to follow advice given by other forum members you do so at your own risk.

Can't remember as it was a few years ago.

List me a few names to see if you can jog my memory (I seem to think it was 3 letters).
