Trying to source melamine faced chipboard with abs edging

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

After having a fairly astronomical quote for a fitted wardrobe, and being fairly handy myself, I am looking to build my own (the internals only, ill be buying sliding doors).

Anyway, having looked round the chain DIY stores at their offering of melamine faced chipboard (MFC) I clearly need to find a specialist supplier that can offer the quality required. The ones I have seen had poor edges and unrealistic looking grain on the face.

So, can anyone suggest / recommend somewhere that supplies quality MFC? :help:

Ideally, Id like to be able to cut it to the required size then take it to have 2mm ABS edging put on (like you get on office desks), however if this is not possible / too expensive then Id be happy to buy the sheets pre-edged.

my only remaining leads are Lavers (will try and get over this evening) and hpponline.co.uk but they seem to be a trade only setup.

Thanks in advance!

I know Arnold Laver can get better quality products to order---and there is a firm on the trading estate at Beighton that has a warehouse full of sheet materials----must agree that the DIY outlets we have left are pretty poor ---- send me your phone no. on a PM and I may be able to help-----Dennis

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. Dennis, I checked out Lavers - you are correct in that it has to be ordered in. The stuff they did have was much better quality. I believe the place in Beighton is the HPP place (Hills Panel Products). I am in contact with them about what I need.

Andy, thanks for the tip, Ill get in touch with them.

Ill take a look at nankivells as well.

I was also pointed at Supafit in Dronfield (where I am). I visited today and they appear to be able to meet my requirements but Ill have to cost it.

thanks again.

Nankivells supply to a lot of joiners and can make your sliding doors to any opening size. There's several sliding door displays at their showroom, definitely worth a look.

This is from a previous sliding door thread:

Today my fitted wardrobe was installed by Nankivells.

I can report that it really looks and feels the business and I am very chuffed with the end result.

The guys doing the job were very professional, and very thorough. They turned up with a whole trolley full of tools (that's separate from the actual wardrobe parts) and various accessories.

It took them from about 08:30 until 15:30 and, at the end, they cleaned up after themselves almost like it was their own home... they brought their own vacuum cleaner! I don't have to do anything.

From the price and the quality and the professionalism I can now recommend Nankivells to others. Avoid B&Q modular stuff installed by a joiner (it's likely not going to be any cheaper). Avoid Betta Living unless you like giving your money away and want them to tell you that you can't having sliding doors, anyway.

I'm genuinely feeling very good about this.
