Asif
I was on the tram this morning with my little one. An announcement was made for a 2 minute silence. I can't believe most people just carried on talking. I was so disgusted. most of people were grown adults who should know better. Is there no respect for those of old who did so much for the nation and world. There are not many people left from the 1st and 2nd world wars. For the remaining time they are here we should at least show them we have not forgotten and appreciate the sacrifice they made. Two minutes of silence is not much to ask. We are indebted forever... harestone
Oh come on, not everyone gives a shhhhhhhhh.... I personally do but there's a huge generation void nowadays and the younger generation has no idea what the whole deal is, or if they do they couldn't give a flying. This is how it's going to be, if you'd like to celebrate the silence do it in an appropriate place, or with like minded people, not on a tram. ! medusa
I was stood in Sainsburys in Grimsby one year when all of the tills automatically closed down, the music went off in the background and the doors were shut. They were pretty certain that everybody WOULD be observing the silence, whether they liked it or not. I've also been in a hospital outpatients clinic when the phones get taken off the hook, the music gets turned off and everybody comes out into the reception area to stand and observe the silence. Very much what "our boys" fought for. I'm really not trying to be disrespectful here but although I choose to observe these silences, others might not. Or just not care. Or even think very much about it. Which is the freedom this nation fought for in the last world war.

On the whole i think there is still a lot of respect and gratitude for the war dead and veterans, among the young generation too. I've especially noticed that this time. Ms Macbeth
Yesterday I was in the pool at Hillsborough Leisure centre, with several of my family including young grandchildren. The announcement was made and to the credit of the majority it went pretty quiet. However, the announcement was muffled so it was difficult to hear what was being said at first. If anyone at HLC is reading this, perhaps a big notice at the entrance, reminding everyone there will be a silence would be a good idea for the future.
