paulabear   10 #85 Posted November 11, 2012 i think the biggest problem is my son does not look disabled and the youths picked up on this seeing him on the tram as it has been a on/off issue over the last year but kicked off more on Thursday after my son stood up for himself when x1 youth was on his own last month and this was the result of it once the youths was all together again. he is 16yrs old with a mental learning age of a 7yr old. the response has been very positive from most of the replies on here and even sf users offered their time for us which we are thankful. radio Sheffield wanted to get involved but we want to deal with this issue in our way , but also we want to give full support to disabled people and not just the para Olympic games but we are here to help the people that can not help themselves and make a stand to the bullies of this world. the police are now dealing with this and we look forward to a positive result and we will let everyone know the out come.  Same as my son he doesn't look disabled, you wouldn't tell it's when hes around people how he speaks or his mannerisms. His learning age is 14 yrs old.
 Share this content via...

If our young men were visibly different I think their lives would be easyier as funny as it sounds I think people would make more allowenses for them . My sons stands out more when he is with his peers as he is so much younger mentally yet visually he looks the same . barts96   10 #87 Posted November 11, 2012 I disagree - I think we now quite often see disabled people portrayed positively in the media, which never used to be the case.  I think there is a complete lack of respect amongst some young people these days, too many feckless teenagers having children with no idea or interest in bringing them up properly( to treat people as they would wish to be treated themselves)  I can't imagine standing by on Supertram while this disabled lad is being abused. I would have to intervene. I hope everything is working out now for him.  Yes I agree baby's having baby's I was 19 when I had my first son so was young myself . But we both worked full time and and had a house of our own we didn't reli on benefits so neither have our children they have dreams and aspirations I think that's what is missing in the young ones of today they think that it's normal to get benefits and just get bye so if they haven't any respect for them selves then they don't respect other people
 Share this content via...
owlboy   10 #88 Posted November 12, 2012 so saddened to hear yoecoming withdrawn has tour posting, and the awfull bullying inflicted upon your son. these bully's are just scum and weak people unable to have any mentality has to the harm their dishing out-or to be quite candid thick as pig****!!  I sincerly hope your son's confidence hasn't been to severly damaged? for this would represent a tragic case of what im sure seeing your son being a fine individual to maybe become withdrawn due to this terrible ordeal.  it so makes my blood boil when i hear of stories of this magnitude and the effects they can escalate to because of bullies igronance and upbringing  This even more reinforced having wotched the quite exellent walter, which was screened on film4 last night. (sun)  May i finish by wishing your son all the best-and just how proud you are of him im sure.this goes without question.
 Share this content via...
