04.11.12 - Sheffield Forum 6-2 High Green Rovers

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum convincingly beat High Green Rovers on what was a very cold morning on Sunday. Forum had near enough a full squad to choose from. Eifion Griffiths was given a start in place of Zak Crownshaw who was on the bench along with Phil Gill and Ashley Proctor as Liam Wales and Nathan Jenkins came in. Joe Neate was also available and started from the sideline. Ryan Lynch was out with illness and Joe Appleby unavailable.

Forum made a decent start with plenty of attacking options without really testing the keeper early on. The deadlock was broken by Forum after breaking up High Greens attack and passing quickly out eventually finding Daniel Sheedy on the left. He played a perfect ball through to Shane Middlebrook who smashed home his ninth of the season.

Forum failed to double their advantage and allowed Rovers back into the game. A free kick midway in Forums half was floated across and eluded everybody, including the keeper to sneak in by the back post. Rather unlucky as despite Forum not playing great, they were still keeping High Green Rovers at bay.

Sheffield Forum pushed on but failed to hit the target or shot straight at the keeper. An attack then brought a scramble in the area and Rovers twice blocked shots before Corey Crownshaws shot just yards away from the line was handled and sent behind. The referee saw this and awarded a penalty which Sheedy put away with ease.

Is should then have been made 3-1 when Liam Wales found himself behind the defence in the area and took a full swing at the ball but mistimed his shot and missed the ball completely. When Wales did score moment later, he didn't know too much about it. Rovers failed to clear out of their area and Shane Middlebrook struck towards goal. The keeper kept out Middlebrook but the ball then came off another player before hitting Wales just inside the 6 yard area and finding the net.

Sheffield Forum took a 4-1 lead into half time as Jason Bowden, today playing on the wing, came inside in the middle of the park and played an excellent ball for Sheedy to run on to and slot home his second of the game. A deserved lead on the whole as Forum did improve towards the end of the half.

Within minutes of the restart, Rovers pulled another goal back but Forum were not going to let this lead slip. Wales had to be replaced due to injury so Joe Neate came on to give Forum a battling midfield pair as he partnered Crownshaw.

As the game went on, the result never seemed in doubt but chances were still being squandered. Finally a fifth did come as a throw was flicked on by Tom Gray inside the area and Corey Crownshaw scored from yards out after having a clever back heel saved from a similar position just minutes before.

At 5-2, the game was safe and Forum had improved their game second half but needed a bit of a creative spark in midfield now so Andy Coates and Ashley Proctor replaced Eifion Griffiths and Tom Gray to add a new dimension and add to the goals tally.

This was eventually done near the end of the game as Coates broke forward with the ball, played into Middlebrook who flicked the ball over the defence for the on-rushing Jason Bowden to run clear, round the keeper and score his first goal in a Sheffield Forum shirt.

A well earnt win in the end completed with a bit of ease as we head for the first round of the League Cup next Sunday at Carterhall Road against KnowHow. More changes are likely for the cup game as 2 tough league games follow with maximum points sought from November.
