What was there before..

im curious what was there before morrisons at meadowhead ? Homebase at woodseats ?

;) ;) *chuckle* No, Homebase at Woodseats was never at Meadowhead before Morrisons... ;) ;)

 

Before the sales units that were in the vicinity of Homebase, it was a quarry. You can still see the evidence of the quarry at the back of the land.

And before morrisons/safeways was there on Meadowhead, it was a Finnigans builder's yard. Decades before that it was a quarry.

Worked for Gleesons so many times that I have forgotten half the jobs we were on in the 60's, inc the Tower blocks at Norfolk Park [where have they gone].

 

Also Finnegans the last job being St Pauls Catholic School on Granville Road.

As said, Morrisons was Gleesons then powerminster, Homebase was a Brick makers yard

I believe Norton Church was built with stone from the old quarry.

Hi,I worked at Gleesons on Meadowhead from about 1973.

Looking out from the repair shop window at the back there was a foxes lair and we would watch the young foxes playing.

There was also a woodworking company owned by Gleesons called Northern Woodworkers. They made all the window frames, staircases etc for the houses they built.
