Some good photo.s around sheffield

Excellent pictures.

In the photograph over the city centre looking up Granville Road you can see the two chimneys lit up with red aircraft warning lights of West Burton Power Station, Retford, Nottinghamshire- 30 miles away.

Just to the right (south) of these two towers on a clear night you can see the AWLs of Belmont transmitter at 55 miles in Lincolnshire - a single taller array of lights.

Given that that Belmont is a lattice steel, cable supported construction how am I able to see the mast with a small pair of binoculars in daylight when the Sun rises in the morning in nearly a silhouette position?

I'm pretty certain that it could be something to do with the refraction angle with the early-morning air, Annie...

Do you remember the tale about the "mystery ship" that was supposed to be near-ish to the Titanic, when she sank? the ship was in reality much further away when the Titanic sank, but due to refraction, she appeared to be much nearer.

I think it's the same phenomenon.

I was thinking the same since both the site and the OP use a comma where they want an apostrophe... strange quirk that.
