Does anyone sell raw unpasteurised milk in Sheffield?

Recommended Posts

And in other news about whole milk, Selfridges in London started selling it and were threatened with court action as was the farmer who supplied them.

Both cases were dropped by the Food Standards Agency before the court date, which leaves Selfridges free to continue selling :)

Hi all,

On a similar vein, does anyone know a local farm that sells raw goat milk? I understand the pro's and cons of using it so am not looking to get into debates at this point in time. If possible I don't want to buy it off the internet as I would rather support a local business and be able to visit the farm and check on the health of the animals myself.

Also if anyone is interested in trying kefir, I have some culture going spare that I am happy to share!

Thank guys, :)

Two places for raw cows milk spring to mind, Manor Farm in Brimington, S43, and Beltonville Farm, Sk17, opposite Millers Dale YHI. Both around a pound a litre.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip on the raw cows milk. Do you know of anywhere that does raw goat milk? As much as my kefir will thrive on both cow and goat, I sadly cannot :'(.

There's extra checks imposed before milk can be sold raw. It has to be from a certified brucelosis and tuberculosis free herd and the checks are more frequent than for milk that can be sold pasteurised.

Homogenisation of milk is a health worry for some. The theory is the emulsifiers used to homogenise the milk mean that more saturated fat can enter your blood stream, but I don't know if this is borne out by the facts. Why it needs to be homogenised is a puzzle to me. I used to like it when the cream floated to the top. As it still does with raw milk :)

There's a good article here on the joys of unpasteurised milk - http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/nov/23/raw-milk-revolution

Hi Nagel,

I believe you can get green milk at Our Cow Molly at Bradfields S6.
