New slimmer playstation 3.

Recommended Posts

at 5am uk time this morning it was sony's press conference at Tokyo GameShow.

what did they announce. the new super-slim playstation 3.

it will come in 2 models:

500GB which will be out next friday the 28th.

and a 12GB model out 12th of october.

the 12GB model has onboard flash memory, but if you purchase a hard drive caddy, you can put in your own hard drive.

prices will vary for the 2 machines as sony are letting retailers set their own prices just like nitendo are doing with the WiiU.

heres some pics of the new system:

If I needed to buy a ps3 next month,I would still go for the current slim version.I don't think these are going to be that much cheaper really.

Also the 500gb vs the 12gb,surely all the other internals are the same,so why cant you just slip in a hard drive?.is the 500gb version a removable hard drive? or hard wired?.

Doesn't gran turismo require a 12gig install?,and theres plenty of other games that require large installation folders too,so what use is 12gig?.In a few months time,I can actually see second hand slim versions being more expensive than the ulta slim version brand new.

Yes you can install a hard drive in the 12gb super slim, but it disables the 12gb ssd.

It's aimed at the more casual user (like the Xbox 4gb) for people who would like a bluray player and media centre with the odd gaming session.

You think gt5 is a big install try playing dcuo it has an 18gb install lol.

As for price zavvi are selling the 12gb @ £179 and the 500gb @£214 or @£239 with FIFA 13

i think the 12GB is a good idea for people like me who's old phat ps3 is wearing out now but dont want to pay that bit extra just for one with a 500GB hdd when i already have a 500GB i can put in there.

i think the prices will drop soon and it will be very cheap.

people should stop complaining its nice to have a fresh machine.

by the way denomis, its onboard memory not SSD

Yeah it's a hard wired ssd onto the mobo, the hd caddy is empty.

dunt make it a SSD as its not removable and the chips are actualy built into the board.

that was the first thing i asked a mod on the ps forum who had his hands on the new machine.

he said its not SSD, its onboard flash memory.

Cough ssd is flash memory.

ye but theres a difference. onboard memory is what it is (onboard). SSD's are same as a hard drive and look like a hard drive but dont have moving parts.

its in the name really SSD = Solid State DRIVE

Lol ssd can be soldered onto the board and dont look like a hard drive, what you are on about is an ssd that is fixed into a hard drive body so it fits in a hard drive caddy.

well if that is the case, why on the specs sheet are sony saying flash memory instead of SSD.

It's the same thing but like you many people would mistake ssd for an actual hard drive, when in fact the hard drive bay will be empty ready for an actual 2.5 sata hd.

Complaing?,Im not complaining, just pointing out that the current slim is still more attractive and more practical.I could understand if the console was £99.99,but its not.But it does look £99.99,especially with its little bit of sliding plastic lol.

My ONLY complaint would be if I bought it,and couldn't play an out of the box blu-ray game.

I think your wearing rose tinted specs mate, considering your username lol.

Lets be honest, what would be the cost difference be to Sony if the baseline model had been 20gig?.
