peakview   10 #1 Posted August 30, 2012 I need to repair several marks and scratches on the wooden floor in the house we're renting.  I think they are good quality oak boards. But from reading up on it, they won't be solid oak.  What's the best cleaner to use?  Would I polish out scratches with fine sandpaper, or what?  Thanks a lot. Strix   11 #3 Posted August 31, 2012 Dents can be blown out with careful application of an iron and a damp cloth (google for more details), though this can leave a watermark, and cannot repair split wood fibres  You need to know what finish the floor has before you attack it. Eg, is it waxed or varnished?  Don't start sanding it unless you know the depth of the top surface  Are the scratches in the wax/varnish or actually in the wood? bl4ster   10 #4 Posted August 31, 2012 oxalic acid is good for cleaning oak - particularly for getting out black staining and water marks
 Share this content via...
