Anna Glypta   10 #49 Posted September 1, 2012 And this is exactly how it will go down in history. Some believing he is a drugs cheat and some believing he is the greatest cyclist to have ever mounted a road bike. It will never end and it will never change. And yes, dvp82's post was very good indeed.  It may well be both. If he was taking drugs the chances are that everyone he was beating was on exactly the same. So I find it odd that they want to strip away his TdF wins, because who do they award them to? The chances are it would be someone who was on the same. The alternative is to pretend the events never happened.
 Share this content via...

Owethemnowt   10 #51 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) It smacks of a witch hunt.  They tested him [ the most tested athlete ever] and found nothing. They tested him in France where the French loathed his winning their Race.  During an era when cheats were being caught why wasn't he if was on the stuff? Also, a part from all the negative tests, he was never alone to cheat. Modern cycling demands a massive entourage and from dawn till dusk he was amongst others. The idea that for at least 7 years he was able to remain alone, undetected in his hotel room with a supply of syringes [to be disposed of] using several a day is pure idiocy.  The fact is we have a great athlete who from an early age was superior. The signs were there as a boy triathlete.  The evidence against him, for example from Landis and Hamilton, both drug cheats in their own right, is not credible. Both lost everything, Landis and Hamilton were both so pumped full of the stuff that they both did solo rides that left the field in their wake in the mountains. No eveidence of that from Armstrong; he matched and passed the best climbers on the day but he never did a Merckx, Hamilton or Landis.  The two Americans were offered large financial deals to give evidence against Armstrong. It was a sure deal that would pay mega bucks. Landis lost everything through cheating. Hamilton lost more. His wife walked too. These are broken men, embittered men and lance was a tough character to actually like, such was his dedication to the sport.  The real danger with these withc hunts and desire to shoot down the best is that it will pervade the sport. Give it 5 years and they'll claim Bolt was a cheat, Farrah on steroids to build up his muscles [!] and Ennis a transexual Ukrainian shot putter given a new identity and all through the Sheffield City Council's connection with Doneckts [ how do you spell it?]  We need our sporting heros and Armstrong is right up there.  What we don't need are anonymous beureaucrats relentlessly hounding a lost cause for years based on hear say and erroneous, dis-credited evidence until someone starts to listen.  It's malicious and it's tiring.  Lance has raced, fought and battled when he needed to. He doesn't need this. Edited September 3, 2012 by Owethemnowt
 Share this content via...

not wanted   10 #59 Posted October 11, 2012 My memory isn't what it used to be but that looks like a chunk of the management, most of the other team riders and a few other people that say he cheated.
 Share this content via...
