GreenyGreen   10 #1 Posted August 22, 2012 Hi all  I purchased a second-hand Acer 5920 laptop recently and it had been factory-reset. I thought I'd see if I could do it myself (just in case I need to in the future).  After pressing Alt+F10 just after restart, I tried inputting 6 zeros but it wouldn't work. I clicked on 'Hint' and the word 'dog' came up.  I got in touch with the person I bought the laptop from and they said that the factory-reset was done via Acer Empowering Technology. So I went into that and it gave me the option of doing that action. This was after I'd created a password for it.  The question is, why does the system allow me to reset the laptop via the 'empowering' part but not through the Alt+F10 one ? - I thought if I don't know the password for the latter, then it wouldn't allow me to reset it through the former ?  Is this a bit of a security loophole ?  Thanks in advance.
