Strike possibly back on at Sheffield ‘dump it’ sites

Recommended Posts

You've got paid employment at a time when many others haven't. It's not exactly a skilled profession either.

Get off your backsides, get back to work and stop moaning.

The council have cut dump it site opening hours, cut frontline staff and in effect cut the lads pay, whilst increasing their workload and expecting them to deal with all the extra rubbish going into the dumps due to the council`s stupid decision to cut bin collections by 50%.

That is what this dispute is about .

I agree, I manage quite well without anyone telling me which bin to place my rubbish in at home.

Really ,the rest of us have the council/Veolia trying to tell us (unsuccessfully ) what bins to place different rubbish into.

Herries road where I go need to learn some manners, sack the lot of them and give the jobs to people who would be gratefull to have one in this climate.

I have seen old people struggleing with bags and they just sit or stand around watching.

Okay; so if that upsets you as an employee, look elsewhere for work! Perhaps start your own business?

No.

Better to sit and moan how nasty councils and governments are (particularly those Tories).

Don't like it? There are many others who would be prepared to take the job on.

They have opened a new site at the canal side where the fly tippers have started their own ****pit which is a consequence of the taxation of dumping legitimately i would presume. Shefield Council on the ball yet again.

The woods that the Blackstock road recycling center backs onto on seems to be developing into a nice place for the fly tippers. There has always been the odd bit but the last month has seen an increase. I'm guessing they get bored of sitting in the queues.

We sat in the queues on Monday to get rid of all our green waste that used to go in our green bin :(

£2 extra and hour and no redundancies!!

Frankly I'm shocked. It looks like the council completely caved.

Perhaps if the miserable, unhelpful, rude and lazy attutudes went away I'd have a bit more sympathy. But as far as I can see it doesn't take a lot of skill to sit around all day and grunt a barely understandable 'in there luv', and it certainly doesn't need as many of them.

Yes you might well stand a chance of a job should this lot be locked out.

Ive never been an employee of the council/Veolia/Sova ,and i happen to run my own business. I have an insight into the dispute ,as i have a very good friend who is a foreman at one of the dump it sites.

Everytime I've been to a dump site they've been doing sweet FA anyway! Well other than grunting and pointing like something from an Attenborough documentary when asked a question.

As I see it, their bosses have asked them to do something for their crust and they've kicked off like a teenager asked to tidy their room.

A 'bonus' deal of 'up to' £2 an hour isn't a £2 per hour payrise, it will be linked to allsorts of conditions and extra work. Funny how every time there's any kind of strike the workers are immediately labelled as lazy and greedy.

Do you think people stop working and lose pay, enduring hardship just because they can't be bothered to do some work?

Funny how all jobs are easy work apart from our own isn't it?

At least the tip workers are actually, physically getting off their backsides and doing a job. I wonder how many of those that are out of work would get off their backsides and do it when it's easier for most to live on benefits and get all your bills paid?

The socialist party are supporting this dispute. Comments like yours are unhelpful, when you clearly have no understanding of the reason behind the strike. Skilled or unskilled, these workers are being exploited, it certainly is not about being lazy, it's about the working terms, diabolical pay and conditions that these hapless workers face on a daily basis to not only clear everyone else's rubbish but to make profits for the council whilst working for the minimum wage themselves at times of high unemployment, when they are forced in to this menial kind of labour.
