English law (in the 1400s) allowed one to beat one's wife with a stick no thicker than a thumb. Hence 'the rule of thumb'.

 

I thought it was that you could beat your wife with a magistrate,hence the rule of law.

No matter how thin, or how large it is, it's impossible to fold a piece of paper in half more than 8 times.

It was Laurel and Hardy in Laughing Gravy,if they qualify not to mention Pinky and Perky.

In the TV programme

they folded a sheet of paper 11 times.

For the first fold they needed 8 people.

For the 9th fold onward they needed a mechanical roller.

For 10 and 11 they needed a forklift as well- perhaps not quite in the spirit of things.

Coca-Cola was originally green.

 

It also originally contained cocaine, albeit from the cocoa leaves. Chewing on cocoa leaves is still common practise in South America today.

Considering an average sized swimming pool holds about 64,000 quarts ... less than half a swimming pool! :rolleyes::)

I had a maths teacher who could fill one in one double lesson!
