Why are scrapman not taking tvs as they are metal?

i dont understand why scap men that take anything metal wont take old tvs as ave got loads that need rid of?

very little easily salvageable metal in a modern TV most of a tv is plastic and glass.

contact the council they have a bulky item disposal service

do the TVs still work? I might take some off your hands if so.

stick a "do not take" sign on and it will be gone tomorrow morning.

They take the copper in the back of the old tvs.

if they are old tvs they may contain murcury, lead, and other harmfull metals take it to a council tip like chesterfield just after the by pass on left hand side opposite the bus depot and rugby ground they will take all TVs and any or type of crap even take asbestos

Your not allowed to scrap old electrical equipment anymore, it has to be recycled under the WEEE regs, there are plenty of companies that will come and take it away for you.

 

Basically they strip all the dangerous stuff out of them, Mercury etc

I think they are fooled by the very clever glass and plastic disguise on most TVs.

As well as all of the regulations concerning recycling, the lack of usable metal contained in them and the risk of contamination with all sorts of hazardous substances, there's also an issue with the long term storage of the glass that formed cathode ray tubes.

 

The glass includes chemicals, coatings and the like which mean that the glass cannot go through a standard glass recycling process so they have to be handled by specialist companies and disposed of in an approved way, rather like fridges.
