Weigh-man   10 #9 Posted August 12, 2012 Your not allowed to scrap old electrical equipment anymore, it has to be recycled under the WEEE regs, there are plenty of companies that will come and take it away for you.  Basically they strip all the dangerous stuff out of them, Mercury etc
 Share this content via...
donkey   10 #10 Posted August 12, 2012 i dont understand why scap men that take anything metal wont take old tvs as ave got loads that need rid of?  I think they are fooled by the very clever glass and plastic disguise on most TVs. medusa   16 #11 Posted August 12, 2012 As well as all of the regulations concerning recycling, the lack of usable metal contained in them and the risk of contamination with all sorts of hazardous substances, there's also an issue with the long term storage of the glass that formed cathode ray tubes.  The glass includes chemicals, coatings and the like which mean that the glass cannot go through a standard glass recycling process so they have to be handled by specialist companies and disposed of in an approved way, rather like fridges.
