Sheffield Pound have given their 'at risk of pts' dogs..

All pictures are on http://www.ineedahome.co.uk under sheffield council

strays. Please see reference numbers.

7600 - SBT cross - 1yr - Male - Brindle/White - Small/Medium

Very friendly with everyone he meets. A small staffy cross with a very

cute face and floppy ears. He is currently wound up in kennels and

will have a go when walking past barking dogs. In his kennel he

behaves. He is a sweet boy. He knows basic commands.

7621 - Lurcher - 2yrs - Male - Red - Medium

A little underweight at present. Very friendly with everyone he meets

and seems ok with other dogs. He looks a bit Ibizian hound like, a

very nice reddy colour. He eats very well. He is a bit of an escape

artist so has had to be in a covered kennel as he will jump over. He

knows some basic commands.

7622 - Lab cross - 1yr - Male - Black - Medium

A lovely friendly, young giddy lad. No problems seen in kennel but is

getting increasingly stressed out. He has been good with other dogs

but will bark back if he is next to a barker. He knows some basic

commands. He is a bit underweight at the minute due to stressing out,

he is eating well.

7635 - Cross Breed - 10mths - Male - Black/White - Medium "Dawson"

Another young, lively boy who has been no problems at all in kennels.

He seems good with other dogs and will walk past them no problems at

all He is very friendly with everyone he meets, loves to chase the

water from the hose pipe. He does know some basic commands. He is

microchipped.

7650 - ABD cross - 18mths - Male - Tan/White - Medium

A quieter, timid lad. He is friendly but timid at first, he has shown

no aggression in kennels but will bark at strangers. He is calm in his

kennel and will wait until you speak to him and reassure him before

coming for a fuss. He will bark at dogs but no aggression seen. He

tries to stay clean inside and does know basic commands.

7658 - Cross Breed - 8-10mths - Female - Brindle - Medium "Sally"

Sally was adopted from us but brought back a week later for being too

much for the new owners. From owners comments, Sally needs to learn

boundaries as she was pushing these when in the home, the adopters

said that Sally is a lovely placid girl most of the time but gets into

a puppy like frenzy on odd occasions and starts jumping up and

moutheing at you. She seems fine with other dogs.

7681 - GSD cross - 6/7yrs - Male - Tan - Large "Snoop" (Have contacted

GSDR - awaiting response)

Snoop has been very friendly in kennels. Unfortunately Snoop was

adopted but then returned the next day. Snoop can be dominant in the

home and doesnt like being told NO. He growled and snapped at the

adopter when, whilst he was laid down, he was asked to move and he

didn't, so the adopters went to move him with their hands. Other than

that, Snoop has been really friendly, seems ok with other dogs, chases

small animals but not aggressively. He knows basic commands and seems

housetrained.

Medusa - as you can see the last is a old GSD crossbreed, do you think there is a GSD rescue that can help this older chappy??

Anyone able to offer the other dogs a home or space?

I'll pass on this dude's information to the dog coordinator for the area to see if she can find a space for him. It would seem that he could really do with being in a foster home with someone who can assess him more completely to enable us to know what we're dealing with when looking for a new home for him.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry I can't tell you what happened to Snoop- I'm no longer a coordinator with GSDR so I don't have access to records and just pass on the messages.

GSDR is currently unable to take in any dogs that need kennels or a foster home unfortunately as they have the highest number of dogs in history already in their care. I'd love to say that GSDR can take in all dogs, but as a small charity which is staffed entirely by volunteers it comes down to people volunteering to provide a GSD-experienced foster home or raise the funds to pay for commercial kennels, and in the current financial climate those aren't easy to come by.
